Shock Collar Dog Training the fast and simple Way

Dog training having a shock collar is a great method to quickly and easily train your pet. Because of the training shock collar dogs are coerced into behaving faster and stop them from being distracted too much time that could hinder your dog training.

Shock collars and then any type of collar training may appear type of cruel, however they dont actually shock your dog. The shock is much more of the stimulation like when someone gets shocked by static electricity after walking over carpet using their socks on. It causes no permanent harm for that dog and it is probably the most effect dog training techniques available.

To begin you need to set the stimulation degree of the collar towards the lowest amount the dog can sense, we do not wish to fry our furry little friend will we? (Just kidding, although it is kinda mean to achieve the jolt on its highest setting when its not essential ) By sensing, I am talking about some type of reaction in the dog where one can tell they spot the stimulation, for example an ear twitch, or perhaps a slight jerk, scratching just like a flea is biting them, or another obvious sign.

The first type of shock collar training we will discuss is behavior avoidance, this is actually the most typical technique that individuals uses shock collars for. The next time your pet does something you cant stand, like engaging in the garbage can and creating a mess from the trash, place the shock collar on the dog and watch for him to approach the garbage can, once he gets close to the trash can provide him a buzz until he moves from the trash can.

Repeat this course of action each time your dog gets close to the trash can. Now you must to become in conjuction with the shock collar dog training, otherwise your dog will become familiar with the collar is exactly what is really resulting in the stimulation, rather than thinking it is the trash can. Eventually your dog can get the purpose and can leave the garbage can alone.

The next type of shock collar training involves teaching your dog to recall. Recall is how your dog simply learns to maneuver for the owner when he receives the shock. This really is helpful for if you are outside together with your dog and that he becomes distracted with a car, as well as helps simply to keep your dog who are around you. Eventually your dog will become familiar with to stay towards the owners side like glue.

To start the recall dog training whenever your dog is from he has some stimulation after which advice the dog in your direction, either by calling him, or getting anyone to push him in your direction, etc. Once he moves inside a few steps individuals immediately stop the stimulation. Soon your dog will become familiar with the safe destination for a be is as simple as the owners side, or inside the immediate vicinity from the owner, and can stay there to avoid being shocked.

The last kind of shock collar training, which is not actually an exercise technique or anything, but its the dogs constant a reaction to the collar, because he soon learns to simply accept the collar, and begins anticipating the shock. Its known as avoidance training. Eventually your dog will become familiar with you may anticipate the shock and then try to prevent it as being almost as much ast possible. Following this point your dog will often do whatever needs doing not receiving shocked. This really is good because he then will more often than not attempt to beat the shock collar, with only infrequent reminders its there.

Dog training having a shock collar is an extremely effective approach to dog training thats completely humane and saves considerable time. Additionally, it gives you beneficial training techniques like behavior avoidance, recall training and avoidance training. Avoidance training and recall are a few things that may be very difficult to show to some stubborn dog using normal methods when the dog does not want to pay attention. There more dog shock collar training techniques that Ive yet to relate, i have listed basics.

Dog Ear Infections And The Way The Dogs Ear Works

By John Williams

Dog ear infections are common in dogs and in many other pets alike, these infections can be caused by numerous situations and causes but as your pet relies heavily on their hearing to judge many of the every day aspects of life it can be extremely annoying for them as well as soar and a painful nuisance during the day and night.

The shape of a dogs inner ear is the cause for many of the different ear infections due to it being able to collect moisture inside from it getting trapped in the L shaped tunnels or tubes within from playing around water or in rain, ear wax, dirt and unclean debris, and unwanted parasites.

To identify and determine whether your dog has an ear infection or ear related condition, you will have to study your dogs behaviour and actions closely. Common ear infection activities include, rubbing their heads and ears against objects in your house like sofas and tables in order to stop the irritating ear, tilting of the head, and a red looking, soar, foul smelling ear with possible discharge. All these symptoms should be highly irritating for the dog and should be easily observed.

To start you should take your pet to a vet to properly diagnose the ear infection that has occurred, they will then probably issue you with medication or they will need to have the dog sedated in order to clean out the foreign debris. This process can be a difficult one for a vet and may have complications in finding the correct medication.

Dog ear infections that are diagnosed correctly can more than likely be cured, but taking your dog to the vet is crucial, obviously without this step you will be putting your dog through more pain and it will take longer for the dog to become well again and have a non-aggravated life.

To give your dog the prescribed medication you will need to raise the dogs ear and apply the medication to the vertical part of the ear so it can seep down into the correct area of the dogs ear. Then holding the base of the ear flap with your finger and thumb massage the ear canal and you will hear a squishing sound to note that the medication is in the correct area, then clean the outside and around the ear with alcohol to stop further dirt from getting into the ear to complete the process.

Teaching your dog to win confidence and respect

The first thing that any successful animal trainer must do is win the confidence and respect of the animal to be trained. This important piece of advice definitely applies to the training of dogs.

As social pack animals, dogs have a natural need to follow a strong leader. Setting yourself, the owner or handler, up as this leadership figure is the basis of any successful dog training program. Until your dog has learned to trust and respect you, it will be difficult for any training program to be successful.

Trust and respect are not things that can be forced, they must be earned through positive interaction with your four legged companion. After the dog has learned to trust and respect the owner, he or she may be amazed at how quickly the training sessions progress. Many new dog owners mistake love and affection for trust and respect.

While it is of course good to shower your new dog or puppy with love and affection, it is also important to gain its confidence and respect. It is also important to not allow the puppy or dog to get away with everything it wants to. It is easy to let a dog take advantage of you, particularly when it is so cute and adorable. It is important, however, to set boundaries, and to establish acceptable and unacceptable behaviors.

Dogs actually appreciate these types of boundaries, since they are similar to the rules that the pack leader establishes in nature. Every dog in the pack knows what is expected of it, and knows its place in the pecking order. This kind of structured hierarchy allows the pack to function, hunt and survive as a single entity. Your dog is actually seeking this type of leadership. If he or she does not get leadership from you, he or she may be frightened or confused. In addition, failure to gain the respect of the dog is very important to the well being of both the human and the dog.

A dog that lacks respect for its human owner can be dangerous as well as hard to live with. It is important to establish firm boundaries of good and bad behavior, and to consistently, effectively enforce those boundaries. When dealing with a puppy, it is important to start gaining his respect and trust as soon as possible.

Establishing an early bond is the best way to move the training and socialization process forward. It is also important to make the initial training sessions short. Puppies have a notoriously short attention span, and even older untrained dogs may be unable to focus for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time. It is best to make the lesson short and positive than to stretch it out and create a negative experience.

It is also a good idea to start and end each session with a period of play. Starting and ending the training sessions on a high note is important. Dogs make quick associations, and creating a positive association with obedience training will help to create a happy, healthy and well adjusted dog. A happy dog will be easier to train, and more willing to please. It is also important to keep the dog from becoming bored during the training sessions.

Many dog owners make the mistake of drilling the dog on things like basic obedience skills, heeling, sitting, etc. While these obedience skills are important, and it is true that they will form the basis of more advanced skills, it is important to mix things up and make things fun for both yourself and your dog. The more variety you provide the better your dog, and you, will enjoy the training sessions.

Grehounds speedhound or cross hunting dogs

Some call them Greyhounds, speed hounds, hunting dogs and many other names, but they are all the same. The difference is in the bloodline. Some have too much speed, less stamina while the opposite is also possible (more stamina less speed). It all depends on what you breed your dogs to hunt and also the hunting terrain.
We all love them the same, yet there are many unaswered questions about the sport. I will leave that to the expert or animal rights associations before I burn my fingers. These dogs make very good pets. They need a lot of love like any other pet, more training and a lot of running space.
I dont think there is any abuse on the animals when you use them for hunting, but that is my own opinion as these animals are bred or born to hunt. What they hunt is a topic for another day. Hunting is like any other sport, like your polo and horse racing, not sure if the horse is being abused there.
The only worrying factor is how the hunters look or take care of the animals during and after their hunting years. But the few that I have seen, love their animals. I love mine and I always encourage the same amongst the guys who have them. We take them to the vet, feed them quality food and house them in clean warm shelters all the time.
I do not believe in breeding greyhounds as it is very expensive especially when you know what you are doing. I seem to differ with most guys on this one because all of us think our dogs are the best and so we breed from them and the puppies end up in shelters. This is one gospel I wish to spread amongst the guys.
This is an open topic, Id like to get your input so as to educate our brothers as far as this precious breed is concerned.
I have attached pictures of my two runners, fricky(black) and greyhound(brindle)

Training your dog the right way

Training your dog the right way - the basics

In order to be considered properly trained, there are some basic commands that he or she must master. Understanding these basic commands is vital to the well being of the dog, the owner and the family.

Learning just a few basic commands can go a long way toward creating a dog that is a joy to be around. Everyone has seen examples of both well trained and poorly trained dogs, and few people would opt for the poorly trained varieties. Training a dog properly the first time is especially vital for owners of dog breeds that have been bred for their aggressiveness, such as pit bulls, Doberman pinchers and German shepherds.

In addition, proper training is important for families with young children. Young children can torment dogs and cause biting reactions, so it is important that the dog learn how to deal with these types of situations. The basic obedience commands that every dog must know are - "Heel", "No", "Sit", "Stay", "Down" and "Off". These six commands form the basis of every basic obedience class, and it is vital that you and your dog master these basic commands. These are the fundamentals, and it will be impossible to move onto other commands, or to correct problem behaviors, without having mastered the basics.

Heel
Lets start with the most basic command of all, the heel command. Teaching a dog to heel is the fundamental first step in teaching the dog to walk properly on the leash. The proper place for the dog to walk is at your side, neither lagging behind nor straining to get ahead. If your dog begins to forge ahead on the lead, gently tug on the leash. This will cause the training collar to tighten and give the dog a gentle reminder to fall back into line. If the dog begins to lag behind, gently urge him forward.

A lure or toy is a good tool for the dog that constantly lags behind. Once the dog is consistently walking at your side, try changing your pace and encouraging the dog to match his pace with yours. It should always be the dog who adjusts his pace to you; you should never adjust your pace to meet the needs of the dog.

The word "No"
The word no is an important one for your dog to learn, and one you may be using a lot as training begins. It is important that the dog learn to respond to a sharp "No" promptly and obediently.

The "Sit" command
The sit command is another vital link in the chain that is dog training. Teaching a dog to sit on command, using voice commands alone, will form the groundwork of much future training, so it is important for the dog to master this vital skill. The sit command can be combined with the heel command. As you walk alongside your dog, stop abruptly. If your dog does not stop when you do, give a sharp tug on the leash to remind the dog. Many dogs will instinctively stop when you do, while others need to be reminded through the use of the leash and the training collar.

Once the dog has stopped by your side, urge him to sit by pushing gently on his hindquarters. It is important not to use too much pressure, or to push him down abruptly. Doing so could frighten, or even injure the dog. Rather, apply a steady downward pressure. Most dogs will recognize this as a sit command. It is important to say the word sit as you do this. Repeat this procedure a few times by walking, stopping and sitting your dog. After a few repetitions, the dog will probably begin to sit down on his own every time he stops. It is important to say the word sit each time, so that the dog will eventually learn to respond to voice commands alone.

The "Stay" command
Like the sit command, the stay command is a vital building block to other, more advanced training. For instance, the stay command is vital to teaching the dog to come when called, which is in turn vital to off leash work. The stay command can be made into an extension of the sit command. Have your dog sit, and while he is sitting, slowly back away. If the dog begins to follow you, as he probably will it first, come back to the dog and ask him to sit again. Repeat the process until you can reach the end of the leash without your dog getting up from a sitting position.

After the dog is reliably staying where you indicate, you can try dropping the leash and backing further away. It will probably take the dog some time to reliably stay where he is put without becoming distracted.

The "Down" command
The down command is another important part of any basic obedience training program. Teaching a dog to lie down on command is much more than an entertaining trick. The down command is very important in regaining control of a dog, or stopping a dog who is engaged in an inappropriate behavior.

The "Off" command
The off command is just as vital to as the other commands, and it forms the basis for later training, especially when training the dog not to chase people, cars, bikes, cats, etc. For instance, when training a dog to remain still when a bicycle goes by, the owner would stand with the dog calmly on the leash. If the dog begins to strain against the leash, the owner sharply issues an "Off" command accompanied by a tug of the leash. Eventually the dog will learn to respond to the voice command alone.

In the next post I will continue with the basic commands.

Doing it the French way

Linda Offen has sent in this interesting article on just how difficult it is to make up a French Champion. And we thought we had it hard!

"As I seem to have "been in dogs" for at least a century, you will appreciate that I have got to know a lot of people in a variety of breeds over the years. One of them is a lovely lady by the name of Avril Lacey. When I first met her in the late 1970s she was well known for her "Weetoneon" Afghan Hounds but then became just as famous for her Hungarian Pulis, which breed she is synonymous with today. She still has one Afghan and, in fact, judged that breed as well as Pulis at WELKS this year. She has also judged both breeds at Crufts. Along the way she also owned Komondors, which always seemed to take over the whole of the hall when she brought them to training classes!
A few years ago Avril and her partner Stan decided to decamp to France (sensible couple!) together with all the dogs. She still travels to the UK to attend Championship shows but, as expected, has also managed to make up some of her stock to French Champions. This process, I have discovered, is very different from what now appears to be an almost relaxed approach in the UK to making up a Champion. The process was explained recently by Avril in the canine press where she writes the Puli breed notes, and I have reproduced it here to give an insight into what dogs and owners ha
ve to go through following gaining the necessary show wins.

I have also included a photo of Avril in the pastoral group ring at Crufts 2010 with her latest Champion Puli who, I hope you will agree, is a worthy title holder.

I hope you find the article interesting - dont let it put you off exhibiting or even living in France!!"

Linda

FRENCH CHAMPION WEETONEON ARTIC STORM

Gaining a French Ch title is different to the UK. You have to apply to the French KC to claim the title and it takes quite some time to be confirmed, as there are several items to check. You have to submit the CACs that have been won at both National and International Shows, plus one won at a Speciality National Show, and also one won either at The Club National Show (CBEI) or at the Championnatt de France. You also have to provide hip score certification (top scores only), eye tests (pass) and the TAN test certificate (temperament test). This test is held the day before the Clubs annual Championship Show, where over 350 dogs from Groups 1 and 2 take this test. This test is mandatory, as are the other previously mentioned items, to become a Champion. The TAN test now includes a Gun Test (previously Group 2 only). The TAN test is for correct social behaviour with individuals, in crowds, and with other dogs, reactions in unusual situations, trust and obeying the handler, e.g. in one part, handler and dog have to jump over a series of tapes placed across side to side (approximately 12" high) between an avenue of barriers approximately 4 wide apart and for a length of about 6 metres. If a dog tries to crawl under, it is failed. It is a long day but worthwhile, and interesting to see all the various breeds and their reactions. The breeds one thinks would be the boldest sadly sometimes fail.

Thanks for sharing this with us Linda!

Properly Crate Training Your Dog

By Andrew Bicknell

The best time to start crate training any dog is when he is a puppy, or if that is not an option when you bring him home for the first time. If you decide that crate training is something you want to do then you should be prepared to continue it for the life of your dog. The reason for this is simple, if properly done the crate will become your dogs personal space where he can feel a sense of security and familiarity, even when away from home.

Crate training your dog is a process that takes time. If you know you will be traveling with your dog a lot then his crate will be his home during those times. Simply pushing him into a crate the first time you travel with him is not the way to do it. The idea is to get him used to the crate even before you ever put him in it.

The first thing you will need to do is select the proper sized crate. Remember to get one large enough for when he is full grown or youll be buying a new one as he grows out of puppy hood. Put his new crate in the room he frequents most so he gets used to it. Leave the door open and place a treat inside so that his curiosity will get the better of him and hell soon go in and enjoy his snack.

The more casual you are about the whole process the more comfortable you dog will be as he gets used to his new crate. You dont want your dog to associate the crate with any sort of punishment or he will always be afraid of it. As he gets used to it continue to put treats in from time to time. You can also put some blankets or cushions and his favorite toys in there to further his comfort level. Placing the crate next to your bed may further his comfort level and you may soon find him sleeping in there.

After you dog has become comfortable with the crate and has gotten used to being in it for periods of time with the door open it is time to get him used to having the door shut. Once again break out your handy treats and put some inside his crate. When he goes in to enjoy his snack close the door gently while he eats. Stay next to the crate while you do this and let him finish the treats. Let him out after a few minutes so as not to create to much stress or anxiety for him.

Keep repeating this same procedure but lengthen the amount of time the door is kept shut each time. As you slowly increase his time in the crate he will become more comfortable with it. When it is time to actually pick up the crate with your dog inside go only a short distance. Maybe to just another room in the house or outside to your back yard. The idea again with carrying your dog is to gradually get him used to it.

The most important part of crate training a dog is to make sure that they are comfortable with the process. If done properly he will just see it as another part of living life as a dog and you can take him anywhere in his crate that you chose.

House training your dog the right way

House training your dog properly is one of the most important aspects of dog ownership. More dogs are surrendered to animal shelters for elimination problems than for any other reason, so proper house training can literally be a lifesaver. The most popular ways to house break dogs, and the ones that are the most effective, are those that use the dogs own instincts to provide this important lesson.

Dogs are instinctively very clean animals, and they try very hard to avoid soiling the areas where they sleep and where they eat. The modern methods of house training dogs, including crate training, den training and other variations, take advantage of this aspect of dog behavior to create a well behaved, house trained dog in less time than many other methods.

Another aspect of the dogs nature that can be used to your advantage is the fact that the dog pays close attention to the kind of surface on which it makes its toilet. That means that a dog that has become accustomed to using grass or dirt as a toilet will be reluctant to eliminate on other surfaces, such as gravel, asphalt or carpet for that matter.

This is a great aspect of canine behavior that many owners are unaware of.

The first part of house training any dog is setting up the training area, or the dogs den. The den is the centerpiece of the house training program, and it should be a small area, like a small bathroom, or part of a larger room. The dog should be confined to this den any time it cannot be directly supervised. It is also important for the owner to spend as much time as possible in the established den with the dog. The owner and family members should spend time in the den, playing and interacting with the dog.

It is important for the dog to feel as comfortable as possible in his special area. The dog should be given a special bed in the training area. This bed can be anything from a store bought bed to a beach towel to something as simple as a large cardboard box. The important thing is that the dog feel comfortable and secure in this area. At first the dog may do its business in the bed area of its den, but after awhile, when the dog has come to recognize this as his sleeping area, he should be reluctant to eliminate there.

The other part of this house training process is to establish the toilet area. It is very important that the dog have ready access to the toilet area every time he needs to do his business. It is also very important for the owner to go with the dog every time he goes to the toilet area. This is important for two reasons. First, it will ensure that the dog uses the established toilet area, and only the toilet area. Second, it will allow the owner to provide praise and encouragement to the dog for using the toilet area.

Establishing a set feeding schedule for the dog is also very important to properly house train the dog. A set feeding schedule will mean a set elimination schedule. Once you are familiar with the dogs toilet schedule, you will be better able to anticipate his toilet needs and take him to the toilet area whenever the need arises.

It is important to not confine the dog for long periods of time without access to his toilet area. If the dog is left alone too long, he may have no choice but to soil his den area, and this can set house training back for weeks or even months. It is important to take the dog to the toilet area consistently, and to provide lots of praise every time the dog eliminates there.

The final post in my report will deal with House Training Your Dog.

Best way how to training your dog how to track items

Training your dog how to track items such as a ball, bone, or even a shoe is very easy. You take an item that is the dogs or an item that the dog can bring back to you such as a (shoe.) Then you let your dog smell the scent of the item and you drag the item on the floor to the place you want to hide the item for the dog to find. While you are hiding the item have someone hold the dog and dont let the dog see what direction you went in. After you are done placing the item for the dog to find you go to the dog and tell him to find the item, release the dog and he will smell the scent and find the item you placed.

Teaching the sit the easy way

The first thing you should do when teaching your dog to sit is to place it on a lead and a check chain. The correct size of the chain should be about 40 inches (1 m) larger than your dogs neck size. When fitting the chain, open it up to the shape of a "P" while facing the dog. One thing we would like to remind you here is that the choke chain is not meant to choke the dog.

The sit is one of the easiest obidience commands to teach a dog. Firstly, place your dog on lead. Holding the lead in your right hand about 4 inches (10 cm) from the dogs neck, place your left hand, using only the thumb and index finger, palm down oon the dogs rump. Pull the lead back with your right hand as you gently press down with your left hand. Say "sit" in your normal speaking voice, releasing the pressure as soon as the dog sits. Also let the lead out as it does, and remove your hand from its rump. Stand up to your full height slowly, and remain standing in the same position. Do not take any steps away. If the dog stays there, praise it, saying "Good dog" in a very soft, encouraging voice. If the dog moves off the spot, gowl your reprimand word - "Bad" in a loud, harsh tone, and then repeat the "sit" procedure again, making sure that you growl the reprind word the second the dog moves, and not before..

Do not rush or grap at your dog if it moves. You have the lead, so the dog cannot go far. The calmer you remain, the faster your dog will learn. Never scold a dog while you are placing it back at the spot where you first left it in the "sit".

Remember to keep your commands and reprimands brief and to the point.

Be consistant and the results will show, like humans, dogs learn through repeatitions.

Next we will do the "sit stay" command
