Training Your Dog With A Few Key Tips

The trainer learns just as much as his or her dog when teaching. This can be said because before an owner can effectively train a dog, they must first train themselves on how. Learning how to tame a dog is something that is not innate. This article provides helpful information that anyone can use to prepare to train a dog.

If you want to help your dog learn not to chew inappropriate objects, allow him to be successful from day one. Make sure that your dog cant get into trouble by chewing on the wrong item. Items such as nylons, hairbrushes, as well as other common chewable, yet dangerous household items, can be a danger for your dog. He can choke easily, so watch out for them.

Dont be ashamed to ask for help if your training program doesnt change your dogs behavior. If your dog is misbehaving, you should try to get some help from a dog whisperer. An experienced, professional trainer can work with you and your dog to identify what works and what could be improved upon.

Dont play tug-of-war with your puppy if you want a successful training relationship. These, along with chasing and wresting, can encourage them to bite your hands. These bad behaviors will be hard to get rid of and are counter intuitive to your training efforts so save them for after the dog has learned clear, well established guidelines on how to act.

Your dog must feel secure and confident to be able to absorb training correctly. If your dog feels anxious, he may experience separation anxiety, engage in fear biting or develop another type of unacceptable behavior. To avoid this, your dog should be housed in a safe environment.

A training program that pushes the limits of a dogs attention and endurance is not likely to produce good results. A puppy only has short bursts of energy and doesnt have a long attention; youve got to keep your training sessions positive and short. Your puppy will happier with the experience, and less resistant to your future efforts. He will be looking forward to them instead.

Make sure the diet you are feeding your dog is healthy and nutritious. The effects a bad diet has on your dog extend further than you might think. It not only makes your dog unhealthy but can make him misbehave as well. With the right healthy diet, your dog will be more energetic and eager to please during training sessions.

Do not let your own mood influence how you treat your dog. If your dog has been good, do not treat him badly!

Try training a dog to clench a plush toy in his mouth. When you see him mouth a toy, give him a reward or treat and use a clicker. After he does this a few times, wait until your dog puts the toy into his mouth. After has has done this, you should click and promptly give a reward. Now, reserve the reward for only those times he completely holds the toy inside his mouth.

Condition your puppy early on so that he is used to being examined by the vet. Skim your hands over its body, and offer praise to your dog as long as its behavior is good. You also need to get him ready to have his paws held and looked at, as well as his teeth examined. Your friends may be able to help you out, too.

Your dog must respect you in order for training to work. Make sure he knows that you know what you are doing and are in control of the situation. Then he will look to you and defer to your judgment. Do not let your dog walk ahead of you when you go on walks.

Often, bad chewing habits are caused by anxiety. Leave your dog safely crated with a tough nylon or hard rubber toy, and he will have something to work on until you come home.

If you use a clicker, you can reinforce obedience better. By associating the clicking noise with positive rewards, you can make a clicker an easy and effective tool. Making the sound and giving a treat is a good way to build this association. Once your dog understands that the clicker is associated with good things, you can use this technique to train your dog.

If your dog has separation anxiety, its important that it learns to connect with more than one person. The dogs relationships to other people serve to dilute its unhealthy level of dependence and fixation on you that causes it so much grief.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for mans best friend.

Great dog training methods

Is there anyone out there that knows a great dog training program?

I am a qualified veterinary nurse, and yet we still see coming in to our veterinary hospital hundreds of dogs that badly need training.

After searching the net for ages I have found a great program. Dog training can be difficult, but using the correct program can help. Trainers that come to your house also cost way too much money, they want about $70 or more an hour, and once they leave you generally have no idea how they did it!

This program is easy to use.

If you have a doggy that may need some help in this department (and often you need just as much help knowing what to do), then I would suggest you try this program.

Click Here! to go and read about this program

I will continue to look for other programs, let me know if you guys find any.

A Few Key Tips To Help Train Your Dog

All dogs need to be trained so that they can learn what proper behavior is and they can learn what improper behavior is as well. Continue reading for some tips and tricks which will help you successfully train your dog.

When training your dog, it is important that everyone who interacts with your dog treats it the same way. Consistency is key in dog training. If more than one person is trying to train your dog, he may become confused about how to act.

Do not let your own mood influence how you treat your dog. Start the training session with good feelings and expectations. Only correct your dog after he has done something you dont want him to.

Your dog can, and should, find the training experience to be a positive one. Try not to make training sessions any longer than 15 minutes. That will keep his attention. Vary your rewards. Be sure to praise your dog when he does a good job. Your dog will be more receptive if you make training time fun!

Keeping your dog outdoors when you are not home is a good way to prevent chewing. If you cant put him outside due to regulations or weather, use dog gates to make certain rooms inaccessible, and put valuables in high places.

Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. The restraints for each dog can become tangled and in an effort to free themselves, they can be injured. This is especially dangerous if one dog is larger than the other, as it could use its superior size to maneuver the other dog into a dangerous position.

If you are training your dog to do a complex behavior, break it down for him. A great example of a teachable command is having your dog get the paper in the mornings. He will first need to learn how to hold onto something. Next, your dog will need to learn the objects name. From there, proceed to teach him how to pick the paper up without damaging it. Then finally, he should bring it to you. If you use simple steps, it will be easier for your dog to understand, and learn quickly.

Keep your sessions short to accommodate a short attention span. Dogs can quickly lose focus when you prolong activities. Limit the amount of time you train at first to less than 10 minutes.

When dog training, use various treats as rewards. Using treats that your dog does not usually receive help to convey they message that your training sessions are special.

Use your dogs name often to ensure you have its attention. Call your dog by name as much as possible when you are first getting to know your pup; this will establish a connection between hearing the name and giving positive attention to the speaker. It is important to use a name the dog easily understands.

Whenever possible, training a new puppy should become a family affair. Regardless of who is doing the actual training, your dog needs consistency around the clock. Every family member will be seen in control, if all are consistent.

If you are looking to train your dog to not use the bathroom inside, housebreaking pads are counter productive. Wee-wee pads leak and mark areas as "potty areas" with the enzymes in urine and feces. Wee-wee pads also lead dogs to believe that anything in a similar shape is fine to use as an indoor bathroom. Instead, make your dog always go outside.

It is critical that you teach your dog the difference between correct and incorrect behaviors. This means that every member of the family must be willing to enforce these boundaries. This will undermine your efforts and make you work twice as hard to train your dog.

Accidents are a part of training your puppy to go potty outside. Get rid of accidents immediately to improve training efficiency. Urine and feces smells will stay in the carpet if you dont clean them up straight away, causing your dog to go back to the same place to do his business. Many products are sold that will neutralize these odors, so ask about them at your local pet store.

Disobedient or untrained dogs can easily make a mess of your house and threaten your sense of well-being. Armed with these tips, you should be adequately prepared to work with your dog, providing valuable skills and behavioral guidance.

First few days with your puppy

There are a couple of principles that we use when teaching a puppy anything. Here they are:-

  1. We teach everything by conditioning a puppy to act in a certain way. We show him to do something and then reward him when he does it.

  2. We use a puppys name before every command except "stay!" and "toilet". It makes him excited and alert and ready to jump into action to do whatever it is that we want him to do!

  3. We repeat a game several times to form a pattern for the puppy to learn from.

  4. We reward the puppy the second he does the right thing.

  5. We use the same command for the same exercise every time. We also try to use the same tone of voice and body gestures that go with that command.

  6. We NEVER punish a puppy when teaching him something. The puppy only gets a reward when it does the right thing and we make sure that it does the right thing!

  7. We use a high-pitched voice when talking to a puppy (rather like humans use cootshy-coo language on their babies!). This tone excites them so that theyre keener to work. This goes for adult dogs too!! Barking out commands to them army-fashion has the opposite effect.

Next time we will be looking at toilet training for the new member of the family. Come with me as we watch our puppy grow and develop to protect and give us unconditional love.

Bye for now: Maqhawe the Mamba

Toilet training

Because dogs are pack animals it is important to let your puppy come into your house every day to spend quality time with the family. If you are only going to let him in a short period at a time then you can easily prevent him from going to the toilet inside by watching him and taking him out if he needs to go. If hes going to be allowed in permanently then you are going to have to take him out regularly to the toilet (the younger he is the more often he will need to go) and know the most likely times that he will need to go (usually after waking up, eating, drinking, and long periods of play).

Here is the toilet routine:

You pick the puppy up as soon as he needs to go to the toilet (he will start circling to find a place) and take him to the place outside where we want him to do it. Once there you must put him down and start walking in a small circle, looking at the ground and say,Toilet! Toilet!. He will start circling and then go to the toilet. As soon as he does, you must praise him "Good boy!" and when he is finished you must stroke him and continue to praise him and then walk with him back into the house.

The reason why we pick the puppy up in the first place is to prevent him from going to the toilet before we reach our destination. We walk in a circle because if you stand still the puppy will sit and watch you to see what you are going to do next, and if you walk in a straight line he will not stop to go to the toilet because he will think that you are on your way somewhere and that theres not time to stop! Stroke him only when he has finished to avoid distracting him.. Taking him straight back into the house shows him that he is not being exiled from the house when he goes to the toilet outside.

By now we have a puppy we are proud of, that does not mess in the house and the next up date would more about fun as we teach our friend to FETCH .

Speak to you next time!
