Train Your Dog Well With These Tips

To have a happy life with your dog, you need to make sure that it is properly trained. A dog training routine makes it easier for you and your dog to understand each others expectations. You will be less stressed knowing that he will behave himself when he is home alone or around other people. Although it may not be easy, the time you devote to teaching your dog manners, tricks, and the proper way to do things will be well spent.

Never give up when training a dog. Through constant and positive reinforcement, you will be able to train your dog to retain the behaviors you teach them. Much like providing your pet with food, training is a continuous process that is never truly finished.

When you begin house training, select a phrase to use repeatedly with your pet. Use the same word or phrase each time you bring him out to go to the bathroom so that he understands what you want him to do and makes a memory link between the phrase and the act.

Get your dog chew toys to get rid of teething pains. You should replace the object with a chew toy as soon as this occurs so your dog understands what is okay to chew on. If your puppy needs to chew because he is teething, try a frozen washcloth.

You do not want to over-stress your new pup by trying to teach him too much too quickly. A puppy only has short bursts of energy and doesnt have a long attention; youve got to keep your training sessions positive and short. Your puppy will happier with the experience, and less resistant to your future efforts. He will be looking forward to them instead.

Continue training your dog so he doesnt forget how to learn. Too many owners tend to be under the impression that once they have trained their dog, thats the end of it. Dogs are much like humans, in the sense that they share the same habitual learning system. It is important that the training your dog receives is reinforced regularly.

Stay consistent with the words you use to command your dog. This causes a strong association between a word and an action in your dogs mind. Remember to be consistent about what commands you use and what behaviors you expect in every training session. By doing this, you will have a higher rate of success with training your pet.

Give challenges to your dog on a regular basis. Make sure your dog knows what he is doing by testing him!

Any type of introduction to unfamiliar animals needs to be attempted very slowly. Before you bring a new pet home, think about the pet you already have. To make introductions go as smooth as possible, when you are choosing the new addition, try to find a personality that will complement that of your current pet.

Your dog must realize that you are the leader of the pack. You must establish your dominance first and foremost, or your dog is unlikely to obey. When you walk your dog, walk in front of him to establish leadership.

When training your puppy not to chew, try to help him along by setting up a "chew-friendly" environment. It is also important that a dog who chews is protected from danger. Things like brushes, small toys and nylons are common things around the house that pose a choking hazard.

If you want to train your dog, you should first determine what special treats are the favorite of your dog. This will give you an idea as to what to give him for a reward. Try a variety of treats and pay close attention to your pets responses to narrow in on his favorite.

Dog training is mostly about being consistent with your pooch and setting the rules of your relationship. Once those are set, youll find you both enjoy your time together even more! Keep in mind that you must continually reinforce your dogs training lessons. Always keep a close eye out and do not hesitate to enforce proper punishment on any violations of the designated rules. Once your dog gets the training basics under his collar, you will not be limited in what you can achieve together.

Training your dog with a head collar

There are many devices used in the world of dog training, and some are obviously more effective than others. One of the dog training devices that does work well, however, is known collectively as the head collar. The head collar is a device that is designed to wrap around the nose of the dog and then attach behind the head. It uses the pressure points on the dogs nose and head to apply pressure which stops the dog from pulling, jumping and straining against the leash.

Many people who see head collars mistake them for muzzles. This can make many people nervous when the dog is out and about, and it bothers some dog owners as well. Beyond that, however, the head collar can be a valuable training tool for many dogs, particularly large breeds that may have learned their own strength and are difficult to control with a normal buckle collar.

There are two main brands of head collar on the market, the Halti and the Gentle Leader. Most people find the Gentle Leader easier to use than the Halti. In addition, the Gentle Leader is designed to fasten around the dogs neck. With this design, if the dog manages to remove the muzzle portion, it is still wearing a collar. While it is difficult for most dogs to get out of the muzzle portion of a head collar, some dogs do figure out how to perform this trick.

The Halti version, on the other hand, generally provides better control of the dog, and it is often favored with those working with large, aggressive dogs for that reason. Training the dog with a head collar is often easier for beginning dog trainers and inexperienced dog owners than is training with a regular buckle color. Head collars are quite good at stopping even the strongest dogs from pulling and straining, since these devices use leverage to give the handler more control.

Head collars are often favored by many people for handling dogs in difficult situations, such as being around other dogs or taking a trip to the vet. A head collar can be quite effective at controlling the dog in frightening and difficult situations, even when it is not used for regular training.

It is better, actually, to use head collars as occasional training tools or reminders, not as a replacement for a regular buckle collar or training collar. That is because many dogs quickly learn to tell the difference between the head collar and the normal collar, and adjust their behavior accordingly. Therefore, the dog that behaves perfectly while wearing the head collar may suddenly jump and strain out of control when returned to the regular collar.

That fact, of course, underscores the limitation of any training device, even one as effective as a head collar. The goal of any quality dog training program should be to create a willing, obedient dog that can be controlled by nothing more than the handlers voice. Even if you plan to never allow your dog to go outside without a collar and lead, a well trained dog should be capable of walking with you without a leash, even if there are a great many distractions around.

The head collar can help guide you to this goal, but it is still up to you to gain the respect and trust of the dog that will allow it to become a truly well trained member of the family. If you are unsure how to use a head collar, or if you are unsure if a head collar is right for you, you might want to consult with a dog trainer, your veterinarian or the staff at your local pet store.
These experts have probably seen many head collars used, and they may be able to provide valuable insight on the type of training device that will work the best for you.

Training your dog with a training collar.
There are many excellent training devices that can be used when training your dog. The most basic piece of equipment that every dog owner should own is a quality training collar. There are many different types of training collars, and these devices go by a variety of different names, including choke collar, choke chain, correction collar, slip collar and of course training collar.

Training collars are favorite tools among both amateur and professional dog trainers. When used properly, a training collar is a valuable, effective tool. However, like any tool it must be used properly in order to be effective. Despite its simple appearance and design, a training collar is a piece of precision equipment, and it must be treated with respect. An improperly used training collar will do no good, and it can harm your training program by causing the dog to become confused and frightened.

There are several important things to consider when choosing and fitting a training collar. The first consideration when choosing a training collar is how the collar fits the dog. It is vital that the training collar be fitted properly to the dog. Only a properly fitted training collar will be effective for the dog. The training collar must also be put on the dog the right way. Unlike a normal buckle collar, there is a definite right way and wrong way to put on a training collar, and putting it on the wrong way can make the collar ineffective or even dangerous.

In addition to being fitted and sized properly, the training collar must be used properly as well. The training collar is designed to provide a reminder, not a punishment. It is very important to never use steady pressure with a training collar. A training collar works by providing a sharp pressure, followed by an immediate release of pressure.

The weight of the chain and the size of the links on the training collar are very important when choosing a training collar. The weight of the chain should be appropriate for the size and weight of the dog. For instance, you would not use a heavy chain on a 10 pound dog, just as you would not use a very light chain on a 100 pound dog.

When using a training collar, it is very important to place the collar on the dog properly. The collar must be placed on the dog properly in order to be effective. It is relatively easy to determine the length of training collar your dog needs. The appropriate size of the collar is the distance around the animals neck, plus 2-3 inches. Since training collars are usually made in even sizes, it may be necessary to round up to find the right size. When measuring, be sure to not make the tape measure too tight.

The training collar will need to fit snugly, but not too tight. It is important that the pressure on the training collar be instantly relieved when the leash is slackened. If the training collar is too tight, the pressure will not be relieved when you loosen the leash. If the collar is too loose, on the other hand, it could accidentally slip off the dog when he lowers his head.

When putting the training collar on the dog, it is important that the end of the chain that attaches to the leash is on the top of the dogs neck. This is important in order for the collar to function as intended. It is important that the training collar loosen properly when the leash is slackened, and that it tighten instantly to provide the sharp correction when needed. If the connecting piece of the training collar is placed anywhere except on the top of the dogs head, the training collar will not loosen properly when the leash is slackened.

This constant pressure on the training collar will be counterproductive, since the dog will not understand what is being asked of it or why the pressure is not being relieved when it does as it is asked.

Useful tips should help you train your dog

Every dog requires training to some extent in order to learn what to do and of course, what not to do. These tips should help you train your dog.

Dogs need to play so always give your dog time to be a dog and to engage in normal canine behaviors. Feed your dog a balanced diet, give them space to run, and provide them with activities that will burn energy.

To be the most successful in dog training, make sure your dogs need for exercise is being met before starting a new training project. Canines were meant to exercise regularly. They need to run and work in order to be healthy and happy. Register for agility classes, run with your dog, and teach him or her to play Frisbee to increase activity levels. Make the activity consistent and stimulating for your dog.

Stay with the training, so that he doesnt forget the lessons that he learned. Keep him in practice. A lot of times owners thing training is a one time event. You can encourage your dog to adopt good habits. That is why it is vital to ensure your dog maintains a strict rule system.

Dogs have the uncanny ability to have single-minded focus when something catches their attention. Repetition and practice will result in your dog waiting to take cues from you rather than being distracted by other things.

Keep your dog outside while you are away from home to prevent it from chewing on your items. When this is not possible due to weather or living in an urban area, close your doors to all of your rooms. This keeps your dog out of your things. Be sure to leave chew toys out for them.

Use treats your dog really loves to achieve maximum training efficiency. This might be an extra-special treat that your dog does not ordinarily have the opportunity to enjoy.

Teach your pet the proper way to walk on a leash. When they walk properly, it makes both of you safer when you both go walking.

Get your dog the proper nutrition required for canine health. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dogs diet. A poor diet can affect their behavior as well as their health. Improving your dogs diet can make training him easier.

Dogs learn by repetitive technique and reward. Repetition and reward are the best ways to train a dog. However, you should limit your training sessions to a certain time frame otherwise you may both become frustrated. This is the most effective way to modify a dogs behavior or teach him a trick. You have to show them with plenty of repetition and rewards.

Take note of the tone of your voice as you discipline your pet. Dogs are very empathic to their trainers emotions. An appropriate firm tone can really reinforce a disciplinary message.

While training your dog, make sure both of you are having fun. Taking some time to have fun with your dog makes your dog like you more, which means fewer problems when training him. Having fun with your dog during training is one thing, but playing and having fun with your dog outside of training is also necessary.

Keeping your dog active is an important part of successful dog training and is also good for their health. Dogs are not made to sit around. The happiest, healthiest dogs run and work. Run with your dog, take it to the park or teach it to play Frisbee. Do not allow your dog to become bored and keep it entertained by keeping it active.

Any complicated or multistage task you would like to teach your dog should be broken down into steps. A great example of a teachable command is having your dog get the paper in the mornings. You will need to teach him or her how to hold something first. Next, he must learn the name of the object. After that, you should teach him how to take the object in his mouth. Then, he should give it to you. Breaking a task into small steps will make the information your dog has to process much more digestible and consequently, more easily accomplished.

Be consistent with your cues when training a dog. Your dog can learn to associate a command with a particular behavior, but if you keep changing the command associated with a behavior, youll confuse him and he wont do what you want him to do. It is absolutely critical to remain consistent throughout. If you strive for this, you and your pet will get more out of the training.

Do not tie up several dogs in close proximity to each other. One dogs chain might become entangled with the other, which could lead to serious injuries. If one dog is larger than the other, it could accidentally tangle the cord around the smaller dogs neck, causing it to become unable to breath, and possibly die.

Its important to include your family when training your dog. The house rules and specific expectations will be more apparent to the new dog if everyone, not just the primary trainer, follows the same training procedures.

As with most things, and this goes with dog training as well, dont ever give up. Dogs need consistent reinforcement in what you have taught them so they remember the good behaviors and dont revert back to their old, disobedient ways they had before training. Training never ends. It is an important part of taking care of your dog.

Behavior problems that suddenly occur with no reason may indicate a medical problem that needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your dog might be acting out because he is suffering. This behavior may be his way of telling you that there is something wrong with him.

You can prevent your dog from destroying your home by keeping it outdoors when you are away from the house. When this isnt possible, you want to provide things that both appeal to your dog and that are okay for the dog to chew on. Establishing acceptable chews toys is also about keeping those things you do not want your dog to chew up behind closed doors or well out out of reach.

Dog owners should now realize how easy the battle to train a dog can be when approached correctly. If the owner has the right mindset and good knowledge, they should be able to train a dog with no problem. It is possible for any dog to fulfill its potential and flourish under the tutelage of its master..

Crate train your puppy

If you have never tried to train an animal, the idea may be rather intimidating. There is a lot of information out there and sorting through it all can seem difficult. These are just some tips to help you start out with dog training the right way.

It takes small steps to crate train your puppy; they must become accustomed to it. Once he is comfortable walking in and out of the crate, try quietly closing the door and offering him a biscuit through the wires. Start small, like at 10 seconds per approach, and then gradually increase the times. If they become upset, you are moving too fast.

When you know that you need to be gone for a few hours, take your dog for a long walk before you depart. If you tire them out, they will be better able to handle feelings of anxiety when they are alone and separated from you.

Always keep the atmosphere positive and motivational when conducting a training session with your dog. If your dog performs a task you ask him to, reward him. Negative reinforcement will only confuse your dog early in its training and is likely to make your dog afraid of you.

You always want to make certain your dog has good leash manners. This helps keep both you and your dog safe when going on walks.

Include plenty of physical activity in your dogs training routine. Dogs can get bored easily. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. It is easier for your dog to focus if he is happy and well exercised. A long walk or a brisk run are great ways to get rid of some of your dogs excess energy.

When training your dog never punish him; doing so will only make him be resistant to any further training. You should make every effort to prevent the behavior in the first place, but if your pet does misbehave, show him what he should have done instead. You should make training a time to interact with your dog, you want to build a positive relationship with him.

Your dogs diet should be healthy and balanced. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dogs diet. Not only does it affect the dogs health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. Simply improving their diet may have a bigger impact on how they respond to training.

One of the most basic dog training tips around is to use your dogs name to command its attention. This will direct his attention to you immediately every time, and especially right before you issue a command. Get your dogs attention this way ten times every day. Also, it is very inappropriate for you to call the dog over to you and then punish him, as this will teach him to fear you and discourage him from coming when called.

Your dog needs to be mentally stimulated just like a human does. Visit your local pet shop for new and entertaining toys for your dog on a regular basis. If you neglect your dog, your dog wont neglect to chew up your valuable possessions.

Dont bog your puppy down with more information than he can process. You need to keep your training sessions short so that your puppy pays attention. If training sessions are too long, the puppy wont remember the specifics of the training session, just that is was grueling and exhausting. This will make it harder to train him next time.

Every dog is unique and is motivated to learn by different things. Dog training can be a learning experience, especially with it comes to determining what motivates your pet. It doesnt matter the reason you want to train your dog, you need to offer a variety of exercises along with positive reinforcement. Any time your dog is happy, you will find they have a better performance.

Training your dog can be much easier if you use a crate. Use a consistent schedule for proper crate training of your dog. Over time, a dog that is properly crated trained is less prone to having accidents inside the home.

There are a few tricks you can try when attempting to crate train a puppy or dog. If the dog doesnt want to get in the crate try putting a chew toy in it and close the gate when theyre not there. This will make the puppy want to be let inside the crate to get the bone. Open the door, and praise them when they go inside.

Do not tie more than one dog in the same area. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. If a large dog becomes tangled with a smaller one they could wrap up to the point the airway of the latter is closed off and the dog would die.

As with most things, and this goes with dog training as well, dont ever give up. Dogs need consistent reinforcement in what you have taught them so they remember the good behaviors and dont revert back to their old, disobedient ways they had before training. Training never ends. It is an important part of taking care of your dog.

Dogs that have trouble with separation anxiety need to develop stronger relationships with others in your household. Allowing the dog to establish relationships with new people will lessen its dependence on the owner.

A clicker works well when training most dogs. Using a clicker is as simple as showing your dog that good things happen when the clicking noise is heard. Try using this technique right away, doing it frequently over a span of a few days. Your dog will soon know that the clicking noise means that they are doing a good job.

It is not uncommon for dog owners to express surprise at the simplicity of weaving dog training efforts into daily life, and how fast they achieve great outcomes. So if you are looking to change any of your dogs wayward ways, try some of our tips for quick success!.

Tips And Tricks On How To Train Your Dog Correctly

When you brought home your dog you were expecting Lassie, but sometimes it feels like you brought Cujo home instead. Luckily, it just takes some elementary dog training to help your dog understand what sort of behavior is expected.

Try to ensure that your animal feels safe. If your pet feels unsafe, it is more likely they will act out in a negative way. Reassure your dog, and make sure he has safe surroundings at all times.

Teaching your dog to not tug and pull when on his leash is an important part of his training. This will make your walks together a pleasure and not a source of frustration.

If you are welcoming a guest into your home, give them clear instructions about how to interact with your dog. These behaviors may encourage your dog to misbehave and leap onto a guest or attempt to show dominance.

When you are trying to house train a puppy, it is not going to learn overnight, so be prepared. Always immediately clean-up any messes your dog makes. If your carpet retains a smell, your god will be attracted to this same spot. Many pet stores or big box stores sell products that help to eliminate the odors from pet accidents.

If you have a big dog who likes to spread out when he sleeps, you will need to get a big dog bed. Large, flat rectangle beds are made for large dogs. You can also get a little creative, and just buy a mattress made for a babys crib. These are advantageous for the fact that you are able to regularly change the cover by using crib sheets. Crib mattresses come with the added benefit of being waterproof.

Here are a few ways to make crate training more positive for your dog. Many dogs are intimidated by the crate. To cure this, place something they enjoy in it and shut the door. Theyll know the bone is in there and will want to go inside and get it. Once in the crate, let them know they did a good job by praising them.

For a dog to become house trained you should always have them on the same feeding schedule everyday, so their elimination time is always the same. This can train your dog to whine or come get you when he feels the urge, so you can let him out and prevent him from doing his business inside. Following a schedule will also help your dog learn how to "hold it" until his next potty break.

Keep your dog occupied if you need to walk past something that will set him off. As an example, if your dog doesnt like to be around other dogs, then you need to keep him busy with his attention focused on you when you approach other dogs while on a walk. This will establish a positive relationship with that stimuli.

Your dog may be engaged in destructive chewing due to anxiety. Confining him to a safe space like a dog crate and giving him a safe chew toy will allow him to stay busy working on a project while he awaits your return.

Make sure you give your dog a good workout every day. Dogs needs include having the proper diet and being able to get a good amount of exercise.

Come up with a phrase that you can teach your puppy during house training. Each time you venture out for a bathroom trip, use this phrase to keep your dog focused on the task he came outside to accomplish.

You do not want to use wee-wee pads when potty training your dog. The problem with the wee-wee pads is that they leak and leave enzymes from urine and feces behind. These pads also make dogs think that anything that shape is a bathroom. Your dog should be trained to know that outdoors if where they should be using the bathroom.

The majority of pet owners are pleasantly surprised to find out that training their dog to learn basic commands is a process that takes only a short amount of time each day and fits smoothly into their lifestyle. Moreover, they are often astonished at how quickly their dog begins to respond to the commands. So if your relationship with your pooch is feeling a bit strained, try out some of these tips.

Also pay attention to the communication your dog is giving back to you as that will affect your training routine. His body language can tell you a lot about how hes feeling and what hes in the mood for.

When you can learn what will motivate your dog, you will have more success in your training. While your dog is learning what you are teaching him, you are learning what methods your dog responds to the best. It doesnt matter the reason you want to train your dog, you need to offer a variety of exercises along with positive reinforcement. You will find it much easier to train your dog if he is happy.

Maintain consistency when dog training. Write down the commands that you use and then make sure each person who needs to know them does. It is also recommended that everyone use the same positive reinforcements for good behavior and negative response when the dog is disobedient. If other people are not following your training program, it can make your dog confused, which will set back your dogs training.

A well trained dog is a happy dog, and owners of well trained dogs are pretty happy too. Using the ideas presented here, you have what you need to start today with training your dog.

You must ensure that you do not overburden your dog with a lot of different commands in too little time. You need to remember that because dogs do not understand words and only respond to actions, motions and tones of their trainers, they need time to fully understand the command. Teach your dog only one command at a time, and only after you are a hundred percent sure that your dog has completely understand and learnt the command should you move on to another one. If your dog is slow to respond, you must be patient and let it learn at its own pace. Keep in mind that you must give it as much encouragement and support as it needs till it is ready to start learning a new command.

Even after your dog has learnt the command completely, you must make sure that it gets a lot of practice. If you start teaching your dog a new command, make sure you spend about fifteen minutes at least on the new command everyday and also consistently make your dog practise the old commands that is has learnt.

No matter what commands you are teaching to your dog, you must ensure using positive reinforcements during training so that the dog continues to associate its correct actions to the pleasant rewards and treats it gets for doing so. On the other hand, if your dog acts in a manner that is incorrect or unreliable, never try to use negative reinforcements. Never hit your dog. Never scream at your dog.

This may have very negative consequences for your relationship with your dog. If the dog feels threatened by you in absolutely any way, it will not respond to your training and actually may get violent and attack you back!

Remember, training your dog can be very easy but it requires a lot of patience on your part. With these tips and some patience, you should be able to get your dog to be well behaved in no time!

Save yourself a lot of time as a dog owner and train your dog to be obedient. It gets so much easier for both you and your dog when you have trained your dog´s obedience. Click here to learn more about training your dog.

To Train or Not To Train

I often hear others speak about training as if its not something that they do with their dogs everyday. "Its too time-consuming" or "I cant find a good trainer in my area" or "I dont want to have to turn the dog over to a stranger for a few months to get him trained. are all excuses I hear everyday! I often chuckle because, know it or not, these people are training their dogs, whether they realize it or not!!! Yes, like children, your dogs eyes and ears are on you at all times, studying your every move and expression. It only takes one time for you to say, "No", but allow the malevolent behavior for your dog to learn that "No" definately is something negotiable at your house.

So, if training is a hot shot trainer to you, remember, YOU are your dogs best trainer. If you say "No", but allow the behavior, the dog learns that "No" means go ahead and test.

So, remember, if you give your dog a command, follow through - EVERY TIME!!! If you dont, you are teaching your dog that your commands are negotiable and you are NOT the pack leader!!!

Tips On How To Train Your Dog Properly

If your dog is giving you a headache, and you have no idea how to begin to train the dog, do not worry. You have already successfully taken the first step toward trainAing your dog, and that is to look for information. This article will provide you with that information and help you learn how to train your dog.

As you begin a new training program for your dog, it is important to commit yourself to the process - dont give up! You will need to give your dog continuous reinforcement, or he or she will go back to how they were before being trained. You always need to keep training your dog, just like you need to continue feeding it and providing it shelter.

Dogs can concentrate on one thing intensely and you will have to learn to break his attention. Eventually, you will be able to ensure that your dog is more focused on you and your commands than other distractions.

It is natural for a teething puppy to want to chew things. It is up to you to remove things from his reach when you are away and cant correct him. If it is too cold out, or you cant leave the puppy outdoors for some other reason, you will just have to do your best to make his favorite objects out of reach. Leave him in one room with the door closed, and leave him some toys that are okay to chew on.

Dogs generally bite because they are afraid of something. This is the end result when your dog feels scared or trapped. Force is not necessary to train a dog, and should never be used. You could end up being bitten if you do this. By doing this, pleasing you will be one of your dogs life goals as it will see you as the pack leader.

Your dog should be happy with everyone in your home so he does not suffer from separation anxiety. By forming healthy relationships with other people, the dog will be more likely to cease its unhealthy dependence on you.

Anytime you hire a professional, you need to look into their background, check references and interview them, and the same is true for a behavior specialist for animals. Many animal behavior specialists have opposing opinions on how to correctly train dogs. Be sure to verify that the trainer you hire has similar ideas as yours, prior to implementing any of their tips.

When you know that you need to be gone for a few hours, take your dog for a long walk before you depart. Wearing them out helps them deal with the anxiety they feel when youre gone.

Obedience classes can be beneficial for dogs that seem to be especially hard to train. Instructors have been trained to deal with all sorts of behavioral problems, and can even help you to learn the best ways to maintain a training routine.

Dont let your dog run the show. If you do not have the time or energy to enforce a command, do not give the demand in the first place.

You should train your dog to walk properly on his leash. Doing so is a matter of safety for both you and the dog when you take him for a walk.

Dog training should always be positive and encouraging. Give your dog a reward, especially when he learns a new skill or learns to refrain from doing something bad. Resist the urge to scold or punish your dog to intimidate him into obedience; this will create fear and a lack of motivation.

Learn to incorporate positive reinforcement when training, in place of treat based rewards. Even though using treats will work, it is not the best idea. However, you probably are not going to have treats on you constantly. Petting and showing love to the dog are also good ways to reward your dog. You can use these kinds of positive reinforcements to encourage good behavior in addition to treats.

Do not punish your dog when you are training him. You should take steps to help your pet avoid bad behavior, but if he makes a mistake help him understand correct actions. Training a pet should allow you to teach your pet and connect with him; the process should focus on positive communication.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isnt tempted to chew other things that arent okay to chew. Give it one of his chew toys immediately. Puppies sometimes chew objects while going through their teething phase. A wet cloth that has been frozen is perfect for them during this time.

Now that you have found the information you need, you can use it to start training your dog. Being knowledgeable about the subject will help people start training their dogs.

Great Tricks To Train Your Dog Easily

All dogs have a temperament that should be taken into account when training. If a person is mindful of this, then there shouldnt be any problems with training, no matter the type of dog they decide to get. This article should help anyone get into the right mindset if they are not already there.

Try using a crate to assist you in housebreaking your dog. Be sure to let your dog out regularly and on a consistent schedule to make crate training effective. After some time, they will less likely have accidents in the house.

Communication is a crucial component of the training process. As you train and interact with your dog, you must be consistent and straightforward. Make sure your commands and body language are consistent, and that you reward and punish fairly. Also, understand the feedback your dog is giving back to you, too. The animal will usually let you know what he or she is feeling.

Getting a handle on your dogs taste preferences can make your training program more effective. Your dog will work harder to get the food that he/she loves so much. Try a variety of treats and pay close attention to your pets responses to narrow in on his favorite.

If you do not think that you can stay calm and keep your temper under control, push back your training session to another time. You need to set an example of patience for your dog. Otherwise, your dog will become impatient and training will be unsuccessful.

Anxiety is frequently the cause of destructive chewing behavior. To keep her safe and occupied while you are away, give your dog an appropriate chew toy and put her in a safe enclosed space.

Ensure your dogs are active and getting a lot of exercises. Dogs can get bored easily. When a dog is bored, he will be hard to train. When your dog is exercised and is happy, training will be easier. Get out for some long walks and runs with your dog.

Keep your dog on a healthy diet. Eating a poor diet will negatively affect your dog in many ways. Not only does it affect the dogs health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. Training may very well go easier when dogs are given the proper nutrients in a healthful diet.

Break complex behaviors or tricks down into simple steps. One example is teaching your pet to fetch the newspaper in the morning. The first step would be teaching your dog to carry an object. Then the dog needs to begin learning to go for the object when given the name as a command. You will then need to teach the dog how to pick something up. And the final step is teaching the dog to bring the item to you. If you make it easy to understand, your dog will better grasp it.

You do not want to use wee-wee pads when potty training your dog. The pads eventually leak; leaked waste marks certain areas in the house as "potty areas". Housebreaking pads encourage dogs that indoor bathroom use is okay; similar objects the shape and size of the pads may be used by a mistaken puppy. Teaching your dog the appropriate place to go from the start is always the more practical idea.

Its important to use treats that really capture your dogs full attention when training. You may even opt to give them they would not usually have, such as hotdogs or ice cream.

It takes small steps to crate train your puppy; they must become accustomed to it. When your dog appears to be at ease while inside the crate with the door ajar, you can help him adjust to the crate even further by slowly latching the door and rewarding him with treats fed to him through the spaces between the wires. Use small increments of time, and build them up as your puppy or dog becomes more relaxed with the process. If the puppy gets too upset then you increased the time too much, too fast.

Give your puppy some toys to chew on so they do not hurt while teething, keep other things they might want to chew on out of their reach! Replace the item immediately with one of the dogs own chew toys. If your puppy needs to chew because he is teething, try a frozen washcloth.

Give challenges to your dog on a regular basis. Even if you are sure your dog is remembering everything youve taught him, having him demonstrate with a little "pop quiz" will keep him sharp.

Understanding how dogs think can make dog training easier. When you understand how your dog learns, you can develop a training program specifically tailored to your dog. With the right information, one can now be a more effective trainer for their dog.

A Few Key Tips To Help Train Your Dog

All dogs need to be trained so that they can learn what proper behavior is and they can learn what improper behavior is as well. Continue reading for some tips and tricks which will help you successfully train your dog.

When training your dog, it is important that everyone who interacts with your dog treats it the same way. Consistency is key in dog training. If more than one person is trying to train your dog, he may become confused about how to act.

Do not let your own mood influence how you treat your dog. Start the training session with good feelings and expectations. Only correct your dog after he has done something you dont want him to.

Your dog can, and should, find the training experience to be a positive one. Try not to make training sessions any longer than 15 minutes. That will keep his attention. Vary your rewards. Be sure to praise your dog when he does a good job. Your dog will be more receptive if you make training time fun!

Keeping your dog outdoors when you are not home is a good way to prevent chewing. If you cant put him outside due to regulations or weather, use dog gates to make certain rooms inaccessible, and put valuables in high places.

Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. The restraints for each dog can become tangled and in an effort to free themselves, they can be injured. This is especially dangerous if one dog is larger than the other, as it could use its superior size to maneuver the other dog into a dangerous position.

If you are training your dog to do a complex behavior, break it down for him. A great example of a teachable command is having your dog get the paper in the mornings. He will first need to learn how to hold onto something. Next, your dog will need to learn the objects name. From there, proceed to teach him how to pick the paper up without damaging it. Then finally, he should bring it to you. If you use simple steps, it will be easier for your dog to understand, and learn quickly.

Keep your sessions short to accommodate a short attention span. Dogs can quickly lose focus when you prolong activities. Limit the amount of time you train at first to less than 10 minutes.

When dog training, use various treats as rewards. Using treats that your dog does not usually receive help to convey they message that your training sessions are special.

Use your dogs name often to ensure you have its attention. Call your dog by name as much as possible when you are first getting to know your pup; this will establish a connection between hearing the name and giving positive attention to the speaker. It is important to use a name the dog easily understands.

Whenever possible, training a new puppy should become a family affair. Regardless of who is doing the actual training, your dog needs consistency around the clock. Every family member will be seen in control, if all are consistent.

If you are looking to train your dog to not use the bathroom inside, housebreaking pads are counter productive. Wee-wee pads leak and mark areas as "potty areas" with the enzymes in urine and feces. Wee-wee pads also lead dogs to believe that anything in a similar shape is fine to use as an indoor bathroom. Instead, make your dog always go outside.

It is critical that you teach your dog the difference between correct and incorrect behaviors. This means that every member of the family must be willing to enforce these boundaries. This will undermine your efforts and make you work twice as hard to train your dog.

Accidents are a part of training your puppy to go potty outside. Get rid of accidents immediately to improve training efficiency. Urine and feces smells will stay in the carpet if you dont clean them up straight away, causing your dog to go back to the same place to do his business. Many products are sold that will neutralize these odors, so ask about them at your local pet store.

Disobedient or untrained dogs can easily make a mess of your house and threaten your sense of well-being. Armed with these tips, you should be adequately prepared to work with your dog, providing valuable skills and behavioral guidance.

Using rewards and positive reinforcement to train your dog

Training dogs using positive reinforcement and reward training has long been recognized as both highly effective for the owner and a positive experience for the dog. Positive reinforcement training is so important that it is the only method used to train dangerous animals like lions and tigers for work in circuses and in the movie and television industry.

Proponents of positive reinforcement swear by the effectiveness of their techniques, and it is true that the vast majority of dogs respond well to these training methods. One reason that positive reinforcement training is so effective is that is uses rewards to teach the dog what is expected of it.

When the dog performs the desired behavior, he is provided with a reward, most often in the form of a food treat, but it could be a scratch behind the ears, a rub under the chin or a pat on the head as well. The important thing is that the dog is rewarded consistently for doing the right thing. Reward training has become increasingly popular in recent years, but chances are some sort of reward training between humans and dogs has been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years.

When understanding what makes reward training so effective, some knowledge of the history of humans and dogs is very helpful. The earliest dogs were probably wolf pups that were tamed and used by early humans for protection from predators, as alarm systems and later for guarding and herding livestock. It is possible that the wolf pups that made the best companions were the most easily trained, or it is possible that these early dogs were orphaned or abandoned wolf pups. Whatever their origin, there is little doubt today that the vast variety of dogs we see today have their origin in the humble wolf.

Wolf packs, like packs of wild dogs, operate on a strict pack hierarchy. Since wolf and dog packs hunt as a group, this type of hierarchy, and the cooperation it brings, is essential to the survival of the species. Every dog in the pack knows his or her place in the pack, and except in the event of death or injury, the hierarchy, once established, rarely changes. Every dog, therefore, is hard wired by nature to look to the pack leader for guidance.

The basis of all good dog training, including reward based training, is for the handler to set him or herself up as the pack leader. The pack leader is more than just the dominant dog, or the one who tells all the subordinates what to do. More importantly, the pack leader provides leadership and protection, and his or her leadership is vital to the success and survival of the pack. It is important for the dog to see itself as part of a pack, to recognize the human as the leader of that pack, and to respect his or her authority.

Some dogs are much easier to dominate than others. If you watch a group of puppies playing for a little while, you will quickly recognize the dominant and submissive personalities. A dog with a more submissive personality will generally be easier to train using positive reinforcement, since he or she will not want to challenge the handler for leadership. Even dominant dogs, however, respond very well to positive reinforcement.

There are, in fact, few dogs that do not respond well to positive reinforcement, also known as reward training. Positive reinforcement is also the best way to retrain a dog that has behavior problems, especially one that has been abused in the past. Getting the respect and trust of an abused dog can be very difficult, and positive reinforcement is better than any other training method at creating this important bond. No matter what type of dog you are working with, chances are it can be helped with positive reinforcement training methods.

Base training methods on respect and trust, rather than on intimidation and fear, is the best way to get the most from any dog.

Dog training for desired behaviors.
Teaching a dog proper behavior while it is young is very important. While playing and having fun with your new puppy or dog is certainly important, it is also important to teach your canine companion just what is expected - which behaviors are acceptable and which behaviors are not acceptable. Teaching these lessons early, while the dog is still a puppy, is the best guarantee that these lessons will be learned and retained.

Dogs learn quickly, and every interaction between human and dog is teaching the dog something. Making sure you are teaching the right lessons is up to you as the dog handler. Proper training techniques are important for the protection of the dog as well as the protection of the family and the community at large.

While dogs are loving, protecting members of the family in most cases, a poorly trained dog can be dangerous and destructive. Making sure your new addition is a pleasure to be around and not a menace is up to you as the owner. The relationship between humans and dogs goes back for many thousands of years, and dogs have been domesticated longer than any other animals. Therefore, humans and dogs have developed a bond not shared by many other domesticated animals. This strong bond is very useful when training any dog.

All potential dog owners and would be dog trainers should understand how dog society works in the absence of humans. It is important to understand the pack hierarchy, and to use that hierarchy to your advantage as you train your dog. All pack animals have a lead animal, in the case of dogs it is the alpha dog. All other members of the pack look to the alpha dog for direction and guidance.

The alpha dog in turn provides important leadership in hunting, fending off other predators, protecting territory and other vital survival skills. This pack arrangement is what has allowed wolves and wild dogs to be such successful predators, even as other large predators have been driven to extinction. What all this means to you as the dog trainer is that you must set yourself up as the pack leader - the alpha dog if you will - in order to gain the respect and trust of your dog.

If the dog does not recognize you as is superior and its leader, you will not get very far in your training program. Respect is not something that can be forced. It is rather something that is earned through the interaction of human and dog. As the dog learns to respect and trust you, you will begin to make great strides in your training program.

A training program based on mutual respect and trust is much more likely to succeed in the long run than one that is based on fear and intimidation. A fearful dog is likely to at one point become a biting dog, and that is definitely one thing you do not want in your life. Rewarding the dog when he does the right thing, instead of punishing him for doing the wrong thing, is vitally important to the success of any training program.

Punishment only confuses and further frightens the dog, and it can set a training program back weeks if not months. It is important to give the dog the option to do the right or the wrong thing , and to reward the dog when it makes the right decision. For instance, if the dog chases joggers, have a friend jog by while you hold the dog on the leash. If the dog attempts to chase the "jogger", sit him back down and start again.

You are not punishing the wrong decision, you are simply providing the choice. When the dog remains sitting calmly by your side, give him a treat and lots of praise. The dog will quickly learn that sitting is the right choice and chasing the jogger is the wrong choice.

Reasoning Behind an Aggressive Dog

Ultimately, a dog’s behavior lies solely on the situation they find themselves in.  An untamed dog may prove to be too unpredictable and dangerous to be around strangers and small children.  While at times the dog may seem cool, calm, and collected; before you know it, they could be strangling your 2-year old, albeit may look playful.  This is why your dog should never be left alone with strangers, especially those they have never been around before.  An overly aggressive dog may very well be a good thing for unwanted intruders, but could also be a problem for you and your family visiting your home for a reunion.

The best solution is to learn training your dog tips.

Your dog will show aggression upon everyday encounters.  A key ingredient to developing an out of control dog is abrupt noise.  For example, your neighbor rolling out their trash to the sidewalk every week will cause them to believe someone is trying to break in or cross that thin line into your private property.  If your neighbor recycles cans and bottles, the simple impact amongst two or more aluminum cans or glass bottles will call for enough ruckus to make your dog angry.

Dogs are very keen to having sensitive ears and the slightest noise will seek concern in their dog minds that trouble illumes in their surrounding environment.  For more information, check out how to train a dog for the complete system for training your dog!  It solves dog barking issues, training guides, and more!

Why You Should Train Your Dog

Let me ask you a question, Do you think that training your dog will interrupt the wonderful relationship you share with him/her? Sure he/she does bark rather annoyingly when you take him/her out on walks, and you do have to lock him/her up during dinner parties given how it snarls and growls at your friends four year old, but that’s all ok, because that’s what dogs do right?

Ummm….not really.

Sorry to burst your bubble but in spite of not being a human being your dog too is expected to be polite. Sure his antics might seem adorable to you, you might think it’s cute when he jumps up at neighbors and scratches up doors, but your dog’s victims sure as hell wouldn’t agree with you.

You might think you do not want to exercise the sort of authority required to tell him to behave any better, and that’s all quite all right really. Being the owner of a dog doesn’t require you to suddenly transform into a whip swinging ring master and you are right in denouncing the pathetic idea of establishing who the boss is when dealing with an animal.

Where you are wrong, however, is in your basic understanding of dog training. You need to realize that training your dog is not about proving how much better you are than it, you are not trying to teach it ‘human rules’ and thereby attempting to make it more ‘human’, training is not a method of ‘humanizing’ a dog. What it is, in fact, is a way of improving the relationship you share with your pet, and of course a means of making it more sociable.

‘What’s the point of that?’ you might ask. Well, here is the thing. Most of us spend the larger fraction of our daily lives toiling in office, drinking our instant coffee, reading those balance sheets. The little time we get with our family and pets we try to merge with some sort of socializing. We go to the park for a stroll on a lovely evening after work, or to a friend’s house to watch a movie. If our dogs are unfriendly then on all these occasions we keep it back home, alone, such that in no time it’s in no way a part of our life at all.

Now, like human beings your dog too gets lonely, it gets lonely and depressed and awfully sad especially when it’s left all alone in a dark house where there isn’t anyone to pat his tired little head.

So you see ultimately due to your aversion towards training you keep your dog from enjoying the sort of company and activities it would like to.

Obedience training is a means of letting your dog cope better with it’s immediate environment. It grants every dog an easier life and makes them easier to live with. Training your dog will give you more opportunity to spend more time with your beloved pet, no matter where you are going and who you are going with.

So get in their and give your dog a nice pat and take it out for training. A few magic words like ‘heel’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘sit’, will change your relationship with your favorite companion forever. Good luck.

How to Train a Puppy

As a dog trainer, I often get asked for helpful tips about how to train puppies. As I think of them, I will post them on this blog. Here are a few to get you started:

1)  Communicating with your dog.
Communication is needed in order to successfully train your dog.  Never be angry or upset when you start a training session, because a negative attitude could cause the dog to become apprehensive toward being trained.  Getting and keeping your dog’s attention is necessary during a training session.  Start by saying your dog’s name in a happy, upbeat tone of voice, promptly followed by the specific command you want him to obey.  If necessary, immediately enforce the desired behavior, and praise your dog.  In your initial training, if you are commanding the dog to move, at the same time you say your dog’s name, and the command, give a quick snap and immediate release on the dog’s leash.  Then continue by verbally encouraging him to obey.  Remember to always keep the dog’s leash loose.  An additional way to get your dog’s attention is to use a treat, but if you use treats, they should be used sparingly, more as a reward instead of being a bribe for obedience.  Praise works best and is always available.

2)  Be consistent in your training.
Your dog learns through repetition, so always be consistent in your training.  Mean what you say and say what you mean.  Be careful not to give the dog a command that you do not mean or are not ready to enforce if it’s not obeyed.  If the dog does not instantly obey, and is not immediately corrected, he is still learning, but what he’s learning is that he does not have to obey when you speak.

3)  Keep your training sessions short and happy.
Dog obedience training should be a very enjoyable time for both you and your dog.   Use lots of praise and encouragement.  Ten to fifteen minutes twice a day is a good length of time to practice.  It is better to have a couple short lessons daily than to have one long session.  If the dog is not doing well on a particular exercise, change exercises, or end that training session by giving the dog something easy to do, and then praise the dog.

How To Effectively And Efficiently Train Your Dog

It is important to commit to effectively training your dog. It will pay off in the years to come, as you have a dog who knows his place in your family and loves it. Read on for some tips and advice on how to train your dog well.
