How To Tell If A Payday Loan Is Right For You

When training your dog, do not treat your dog like he is a person with a great intellectual capacity. Making this assumption when training your dog results in disappointment and even disaster. However, you are about to learn how to properly treat your dog so you can train it.

Include plenty of physical activity in your dogs training routine. Dont let your dog sit around with nothing to do. They wont get any exercise that way and if theyre too bored, they might sniff around and get into some trouble. A bored dog is very difficult to train. Your dog will be more relaxed and willing to listen if he is exercised frequently. Go on extended walks or runs with your dog on a regular basis.

If your dog has problems with destructive chewing, he may be suffering from anxiety or boredom. If you keep him in a crate and give him toys that are safe for him to chew on, your dog and your house will stay safe.

You do not want to over-stress your new pup by trying to teach him too much too quickly. Puppies have short attention spans, therefore keep your sessions short and provide ample amounts of praise. Overdoing it could cause them to forget what was learned, and they may see the training as negative; thus, making sessions harder for you later.

It takes small steps to crate train your puppy; they must become accustomed to it. After they become used to each individual step and do not mind going inside the crate, try shutting the door and giving them treats with the door closed. Leave them in for short periods of time, as little as 10 seconds. Work up from there. If the dog becomes agitated, slow down a little more to make them more comfortable.

Dog training should be a fun and rewarding experience. Keep training to a short 10-15 minute session; much longer and your dogs attention will wander. The dog should be given ample rewards in various forms. Your dog should enjoy lots of praise for a job well-done. You and your dog should both enjoy training.

Whenever you are teaching a dog a multi-step task, reduce it to a series of smaller tasks. A good example is training the dog to pick up the morning paper for you. To begin this process, you have to teach him how he can hold onto an object. Next, he must learn the name of the object. After this, teach him to pick the object up. Finally, your dog should learn to bring an object to you on command. If the behavior is broken down into steps, the dog will more easily understand what is expected of him.

Make sure training has an element of fun incorporated into it. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. Training can be a good and fun time with your dog, but you should also set aside time that is just for play.

Treats are great incentives when training a dog; however, treats can cause a dog to become overweight, so limit the number offered. The number of treats a dog gets during training can rack up pretty quickly, and a lot of owners overlook this part of their canines diet.

You should never tether two dogs in close proximity to one another. It is just too easy for dogs in such a situation to tangle their leads together, and this can lead to serious injuries for both of them. If dogs get tangled up too severely, one can get wrapped up so badly it could close off the airway, and he could die.

Every puppy in training will make some mistakes in the potty department. To help your training stay on track, clean up any messes right away. The smell from the feces and urine can stay in the carpet, and cause your pet to want to relieve themselves on that spot more often. There are a number of products that will get rid if the smell. Look for them at your favorite pet store.

Positively encourage your dog without using treats. Remember, that dog treats are one way to reward a dog for desired behavior. Unfortunately, you probably dont have a treat in your pocket every single day, especially when you arent in training mode. Hugging or patting your dog is a good way to replace treats.

If you want success in training your dog, you must make sure that your dog has a good activity level throughout his life. By their very nature, most dogs are not sedentary. They need to be active, so they can be happy and healthy. Some examples of ways to get your dog more active would be to put it in a fitness class, take it running, or teach it how to play Frisbee. If you stay active with him, he is not likely to get bored.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.

Stop breeding for the sake of breeding breed to improve something on that dog you want to breed

There is a craze going on about dog breeding and it makes me sick to the bone. People have a wrong perception that there is a lot of money to be made in dog breeding. As a result they mate anything with a tail. This so wrong as it is very expensive to raise puppies that you will eventually struggle to sell.
Not sure what one can do to ensure that people get to understand this concept. Breed only to improve the breed, invest on a good female and pay a stud fee for a champion dog to breed from. Dont just breed from any dog with a tail.
On the picture I am standing next to Pavarotti a Champion dog that died some few years back and no one has bred anything close to that dog, but there are many dog breeders who breed on daily basis.
Thats my take.

It is that time of the year once again!!!!!!!!

I would like to take this time to wish all of you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Enjoy with your friends and family and remember to make a positive contribution to those who are less fortunate. There are just too many people out there who are destitute and they need to be helped in one way or another. Lets become a giving nation, all the old clothes that we have lying somewhere in the boxes will make a big difference if we give them to people who are in need.

On an animal note, lets not forget our pets. To them there is no festive season, they love us the same way all the time. Lets not abandon them, if you are going away please ensure that you have arranged with a shelter organisation to look after them or a neighbour or friend that you trust. Looking after animals is a challenge, especially if you are not an animal person as its not about throwing food and changing water, you need to spend time with them. You need to check their health as they can never come up to you and say, I have been poisoned or i am not feeling well. So when you decide on the people who will look after your pets have that in mind.

I am spending the holidays with my dogs as the kids are gone to have fun. I will be running around and walking them every morning and having a great time. I will also be looking after some of my neighbours animals, that is if they decide to involve me.

Make an informed decision before deciding to buy a puppy as a present for your child.

Once again, enjoy the festive season and looking forward to chatting to you in the new year.

Lets All Arrive Alive

  • Take breaks as you go on your long journeys.
  • Dont drink and drive.
  • Safety belts all the time, even those on the back seat.
  • No chatting on the cellphones while you drive.
  • Avoid road rage, drive away as you have nothing to loose.
  • Take precautions before assisting people involved in accidents.
  • No lift to strangers.

DO NOT OVER SPEND, JANUARY AND SCHOOL FEES IS AROUND THE CORNER

Have you Checked your Dogs Teeth Recently

By Matthew Homfray

Dogs cannot brush their own teeth. This may seem like stating the obvious, but there are a huge number of dogs out there with severe dental disease that desperately need treatment. Most owners are unaware of their dogs teeth problem until either a vet checks the dogs mouth, or the mouth becomes so sore and breath so foul that the owners attention is drawn to it.

As your dentist will advise you, preventative dental care is a much better strategy than waiting for a problem to occur and then dealing with it. Dogs do not tend to suffer from cavities as humans do, but often get periodontal (gum) disease, which is painful.

Are some dogs more likely to get dental disease than others?

Yes. There is a lot of breed variation in the susceptibility to periodontal disease. Toy breeds such as Yorkshire Terriers have very soft gums and, if their teeth are not brushed regularly, they often require dental scaling and polishing at just a few years of age. Larger breeds such as Golden Retrievers and Labradors have harder gums and rarely need any dental treatment, even without brushing. However, any pet can develop dental disease and any good vet will check a dogs mouth as part of a routine annual check up to advise whether any dental treatment is necessary.

Clearly diet plays a major role in the development of dental disease. Dogs that eat a dry biscuit based or complete diet are less likely to get periodontal disease compared with dogs on wet tinned food merely due to the crunchy hard food helping to stop tartar attaching to the teeth. Some owners supplement their dogs diet with chews specifically designed to help clean teeth, just like it is said that eating a crunchy apple helps to keep a humans teeth clean. However, just like in humans, diet alone is not enough for some dogs and brushing may be necessary if you are to avoid the prospect of dental scaling and polishing under general anesthetic further down the line.

How do I know if my dog has dental disease?

The common signs to look out for are:

1. Discoloration of the teeth, with yellow/brown tartar (known as calculus) adhering to the teeth, mainly on the cheek side.

2. Reddening of the gums (known as gingivitis).

3. Recession on the gum to expose some of the tooth root.

4. Bad breath (halitosis).

5. Dribbling more than is usual.

6. Reluctance to bite on hard objects such as sticks and toys.

7. Difficulty eating dry biscuit type foods.

How do I go about brushing my dogs teeth?

Firstly, buy a suitable toothbrush. Human toothbrushes are usually too hard for dogs, though can be used if they have soft bristles. Ideally you want a toothbrush with a long handle and an angled head to better fit the mouth, and extra soft bristles. An alternative is using a finger brush, which fits over the tip of your finger.

Next, find a suitable toothpaste. Dogs do not really like the mint taste of human toothpastes, so the whole operation will run more smoothly if you use a toothpaste designed for pets. Some pet toothpastes come in meaty flavors so that your pet enjoys the experience. These pet toothpastes usually contain enzymes that help control plaque. Fluoride may be incorporated to help control bacteria. Tip: try placing the toothpaste between the bristles if you can rather than on the top of them, as this will achieve better cleaning.

Now you have the equipment, try brushing the teeth. Most pets will accept this if you are gentle. It is much easier if you start when they are puppies so that they are accustomed to the procedure, but even older dogs can grow to accept it. The outside of the teeth (the cheek side) is the most important to clean, as the dogs tongue helps clean the inside of the teeth to an extent.

The toothbrush bristles should be placed where the teeth and gums meet at a 45 degree angle. The movement should be in an oval pattern. Try to gently force the bristle ends into the area around the base of the tooth as well as into the gap between the teeth. Aim for ten short back-and-forth motions, covering several teeth at a time, then move the brush to a new location.

When starting for the first time, do it twice daily without toothpaste for 1-2 weeks. This way your dog will become familiar with the feel of the brush quickly, and you can then start doing it with toothpaste. In the long term, twice weekly brushing is usually adequate.

My dog already has a rotten mouth, need I be worried about getting his/her teeth done at the vets?

As long as your dog does not have a pre-existing heart or respiratory problem, you need not be worried. Even if they do, chances are your dog will be fine. Dental scaling and polishing is done on a daily basis at many veterinary clinics, and does not have any risks in itself beyond the anesthetic risk that exists with every general anesthetic. Many clinics will do pre-anesthetic blood tests for geriatric patients as a matter of protocol, to check on their liver and kidney function. If your dog has severe periodontal disease, he/she may require teeth to be extracted. This is not something you should worry about in itself, as it is much better for your dog to have no tooth than a painful tooth.

If you think your dog might require professional dental treatment, you should book an appointment with your vet ASAP. Many dogs develop a new lease of life when their mouth suddenly becomes pain free, it may be the greatest gift you could ever give your pet.

Thinking of Getting a New Puppy Make Sure That you Apply your Dog Training Skills Right Away

Author: Chris Simpson

If you have never owned a puppy before, this article should help to prepare you for the many things that you should know and expect from your puppy and some of your responsibilities as the owner, as far as how you should go about properly training them. Dog training is very important and the earlier that you start with it, the much better off that you will be, no doubt about that one. Puppies come into our homes and you need to keep in mind that even though they are very small usually, they are also very, very inquisitive and will surprisingly catch on to many things very quickly. It is so important for anyone who is considering to get themselves a little puppy to definitely remember that you will just have to make sure that you apply some dog training skills on them right away, the longer that you put it off, the more difficult they will be to train.

Rewarding our little puppies with tons of praise and even some little treats, is the best way to teach them right from wrong. They love to make their owners happy and will go out of their way to every single time, as long as you have constantly given them that praise that they deserve for being such a good puppy and listening to your commands. Everyone wants to be the proud owner of a very well behaved lil puppy but most people do not want to put forth the effort to actually try and get their puppies trained by a professional or train the puppy themselves, which is why so many of us really need to get educated a little bit more about puppy care and the many reasons why it is so very important to properly train our animals, especially our little curious puppies. They are so adorable but can turn out to be very ugly later on if they are not immediately properly trained, so that they will know exactly how they are really supposed to act.

There are just a few things that everyone who owns a puppy should remember, when they are ready to begin applying their dog training skills. Learning just the few basics on dog training will really help to prevent any bad behavior out of your puppy in the near future. It will only take a little bit of your time and a great deal of consistency ofcourse, and then you will have the opportunity to show off your dog training skills to all of your friends and family, they will all be very impressed by your pooches good manners and adorable tricks. There are so many different books available that can teach you even more about dog training and all of the different dog training techniques. You will be so surprised once you begin learning more about this, surprised at how simple things could be for you and your new little friend with the most appropriate dog training skills.

Useful tips should help you train your dog

Every dog requires training to some extent in order to learn what to do and of course, what not to do. These tips should help you train your dog.

Dogs need to play so always give your dog time to be a dog and to engage in normal canine behaviors. Feed your dog a balanced diet, give them space to run, and provide them with activities that will burn energy.

To be the most successful in dog training, make sure your dogs need for exercise is being met before starting a new training project. Canines were meant to exercise regularly. They need to run and work in order to be healthy and happy. Register for agility classes, run with your dog, and teach him or her to play Frisbee to increase activity levels. Make the activity consistent and stimulating for your dog.

Stay with the training, so that he doesnt forget the lessons that he learned. Keep him in practice. A lot of times owners thing training is a one time event. You can encourage your dog to adopt good habits. That is why it is vital to ensure your dog maintains a strict rule system.

Dogs have the uncanny ability to have single-minded focus when something catches their attention. Repetition and practice will result in your dog waiting to take cues from you rather than being distracted by other things.

Keep your dog outside while you are away from home to prevent it from chewing on your items. When this is not possible due to weather or living in an urban area, close your doors to all of your rooms. This keeps your dog out of your things. Be sure to leave chew toys out for them.

Use treats your dog really loves to achieve maximum training efficiency. This might be an extra-special treat that your dog does not ordinarily have the opportunity to enjoy.

Teach your pet the proper way to walk on a leash. When they walk properly, it makes both of you safer when you both go walking.

Get your dog the proper nutrition required for canine health. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dogs diet. A poor diet can affect their behavior as well as their health. Improving your dogs diet can make training him easier.

Dogs learn by repetitive technique and reward. Repetition and reward are the best ways to train a dog. However, you should limit your training sessions to a certain time frame otherwise you may both become frustrated. This is the most effective way to modify a dogs behavior or teach him a trick. You have to show them with plenty of repetition and rewards.

Take note of the tone of your voice as you discipline your pet. Dogs are very empathic to their trainers emotions. An appropriate firm tone can really reinforce a disciplinary message.

While training your dog, make sure both of you are having fun. Taking some time to have fun with your dog makes your dog like you more, which means fewer problems when training him. Having fun with your dog during training is one thing, but playing and having fun with your dog outside of training is also necessary.

Keeping your dog active is an important part of successful dog training and is also good for their health. Dogs are not made to sit around. The happiest, healthiest dogs run and work. Run with your dog, take it to the park or teach it to play Frisbee. Do not allow your dog to become bored and keep it entertained by keeping it active.

Any complicated or multistage task you would like to teach your dog should be broken down into steps. A great example of a teachable command is having your dog get the paper in the mornings. You will need to teach him or her how to hold something first. Next, he must learn the name of the object. After that, you should teach him how to take the object in his mouth. Then, he should give it to you. Breaking a task into small steps will make the information your dog has to process much more digestible and consequently, more easily accomplished.

Be consistent with your cues when training a dog. Your dog can learn to associate a command with a particular behavior, but if you keep changing the command associated with a behavior, youll confuse him and he wont do what you want him to do. It is absolutely critical to remain consistent throughout. If you strive for this, you and your pet will get more out of the training.

Do not tie up several dogs in close proximity to each other. One dogs chain might become entangled with the other, which could lead to serious injuries. If one dog is larger than the other, it could accidentally tangle the cord around the smaller dogs neck, causing it to become unable to breath, and possibly die.

Its important to include your family when training your dog. The house rules and specific expectations will be more apparent to the new dog if everyone, not just the primary trainer, follows the same training procedures.

As with most things, and this goes with dog training as well, dont ever give up. Dogs need consistent reinforcement in what you have taught them so they remember the good behaviors and dont revert back to their old, disobedient ways they had before training. Training never ends. It is an important part of taking care of your dog.

Behavior problems that suddenly occur with no reason may indicate a medical problem that needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your dog might be acting out because he is suffering. This behavior may be his way of telling you that there is something wrong with him.

You can prevent your dog from destroying your home by keeping it outdoors when you are away from the house. When this isnt possible, you want to provide things that both appeal to your dog and that are okay for the dog to chew on. Establishing acceptable chews toys is also about keeping those things you do not want your dog to chew up behind closed doors or well out out of reach.

Dog owners should now realize how easy the battle to train a dog can be when approached correctly. If the owner has the right mindset and good knowledge, they should be able to train a dog with no problem. It is possible for any dog to fulfill its potential and flourish under the tutelage of its master..

Time For A Dog Bath Dog Bathing Tips For You And Your Dog

By Teresa James

Cleanliness and proper grooming can be very important to thecontinued good health of our beloved pets. But bathing our puppyor adult dog can often prove to be a challenge. There are manyquestions, myths and opinions floating around when discussingthe best care for different dog types and temperaments. Checkout these dog bathing tips to get some great ideas so you’ll beprepared for your next dog bath and grooming session.

How often should you bath your dog?

How often your pet will need a dog bath will depend on thebreed and what type of activities the dog is involved in. It’sbest to bathe your dog only when your dog is really dirty. Justuse your nose – that tell tale doggy smell will let you knowit’s time for a bath.

If a dog is bathed too often the skin will be stripped of itsnatural, protective oils. This will result in dry itchy skin, which will cause your dog to scratch, further irritating thealready sensitive skin. If you need to bathe your dog morefrequently make sure to use a pet shampoo that will alsomoisturize your dog’s skin. You may also want to follow up withan after bath pet coat conditioner specifically formulated fordry skin.

Where’s the best place to bath your dog?

In warm weather you can bathe your dog outside. Pick a placethat will not turn to mud when it gets wet. It’s a good idea ahave a washtub large enough for your dog to stand up in and fillit with a few inches of water. Water straight from a garden hosemay start off warm, but usually gets cold very fast. If your dogstarts to resist and shiver, as the water gets colder, you maywant to consider another option.

Many pet owners have overcome this problem by purchasing araised dog bath. This convenient, back-saving dog bath is oftenused with a water temperature mixer valve assembly thatcompletely solves this problem. With the proper equipment set upyou’ll be able to save your back and control the watertemperature of your dog’s bath. Some temperature mixer valveassemblies hook up to your existing washing machine watersupply. At bath time just connect an ordinary garden hose to thevalve assembly and run it outside to the bathing area. Thisconvenient type of back-saving dog bath can even be used forbathing your dog inside.

If you choose to bathe your dog inside, regulating the watertemperature shouldn’t be a problem. But deciding where to batheyour dog might be. Small dogs and puppies can usually be bathedeasily in a sink or a washtub. For bigger dogs you will needsomething bigger like a bathtub or a large shower stall. And ofcourse, the bigger your dog is the bigger the potential hassles.

Are you tired of chasing and wrestling with your dog at bathtime?

Many dog owners solve this problem by purchasing a raised dogbath. An ergonomically designed dog grooming bathing tubelevates your dog to a level that’s comfortable for you andkeeps your dog securely contained, taking the hassle out ofwashing your dog. You’ll get the job done in half the time, saveyour back and stay dryer. The raised dog bath that is availablein most pet shops and online stores will also save your dogstress at bath time. No more slipping and sliding. Your dog willreally feel secure standing on the padded non-slip surface. Thistype of raised dog bath has been recommended by Dog WorldMagazine in their "Notable Products for the New Millennium".

Does your dog tend to get away from you during a bath?

Bathing your dog is a challenging, but essential, part of doggrooming. It’s funny how your dog will cleverly evade you whenyou try to get him into a dog bath, but will be just asdetermined to get past you when you don’t want him to jump intothe water at the beach.

If you’re washing your dog in a room with a door make sure toclose it so that your dog will not see an escape route or getvery far if he prematurely gets out of the bath. This way you’llhave an easier time getting him back in the tub to finish thejob. It can be a challenge bathing a dog that’s wiggling aroundbut the challenge gets a little tougher when your dog is anescape artist. If your dog takes any opportunity to get awayfrom you at bath time you may want to consider restraining yourdog.

Restraints are used during bath time to avoid injury to you aswell as your pet. Some pet bathing tubs come with restraintsincluded. With these your dog will be safely and securelyrestrained and you will be able to give your dog a quick andhassle-free bath.

Is your dog slipping and sliding in the bath?

Slipping and sliding can be the most stressful part of bathtime for a dog. Put a rubber mat down on the bottom surface ofthe tub to prevent your dog from sliding and getting hurt. Asure-footed dog will be less resistant and much more at easeduring bath time.

Things to have on hand at bath time:

Raised Dog Bath - This is a fantastic idea for a dog bath. It’s ergonomically designed for both you and your dog’s comfort.Your local pet groomer is likely to have just such a bathingstation set up in their shop. If you’re thinking about buying atub or basin to bathe your dog in, ask them if you can check outtheir tub set up. If you have the room or more than one dog, youmay find it worthwhile.

Pet Shower or Plastic Pitcher - A Pet Shower is great, but ifthat’s not possible make sure you have a large plastic pitcherfor wetting and rinsing your dog.

Drain Screen - Make sure to protect your plumbing from hairclogs with a simple to use drain screen.

Cotton Balls - Can be placed in each ear to prevent water fromrunning into your dogs ears.

Pet Shampoos - There are many different pet shampoos eachformulated to work on problems such as dry itchy skin, inflamedor dry scaling skin, fleas & ticks, doggy odor, skunk odor, abnormal shedding, quick rinsing for dogs that dont like totake a bath, whiteners for white coats, color intensifiers fordark coats, and coat shine to bring out the natural luster ofyour dogs coat. You may want to try a hypoallergenicshampoo/conditioner that will gently clean and conditioner yourpets coat in one step.

Coat Conditioners - There are many pet coat conditioners thatwill help manage and or improve the appearance of your dogscoat like crème rinse, grooming spray, after bath dry skintreatment, and herbal mist conditioner that will soothe,re-moisturize and detangle your pets coat.

Pet Drying Towels - If you want to get your dog dry fastercheck out a specialty pet-drying towel. Some are available thatwill absorb 10 times its own weight in water!

Eye Protective Gel - Are you concerned about shampoo makingits way into your dog’s eyes? Just put a little protective eyegel in each eye just before bath time to prevent burning andredness.

Ear Drying Solution - If your dog is prone to ear infectionsmake sure you have some ear-drying solution on hand. Using anear drying solution will assure that the ear canal is nice anddry after bathing.

Brushes/Combs - There are many different styles and sizes oftraditional dog grooming brushes and combs that you can choosefrom. If your dog has very sensitive or irritated skin you maywant to consider a higher quality brush that will not scratchthe skin or aggravate existing skin irritations.

Pet Dryer - If your dog has a thick, long or double coat it’sbest to use a pet dryer. Unlike “people” hair dryers, pet dryersare designed to use less heat and more air volume so theyquickly and safely dry a dog without damaging the coat orburning the skin. If you use a "people" blow dryer be verycareful since you can easily burn your pet!

Plastic Bucket - It’s very convenient to have a waterproofcontainer that will keep your dog grooming supplies close athand.

Remember to get all your dog grooming supplies ready beforehand and let your dog sniff everything.

Why you should brush your dog thoroughly before bathing.

Depending on the type of coat your dog has you may need anassortment of grooming brushes and combs to properly care foryour dogs skin and coat. Before you bathe your dog its alwaysa good idea to brush your pets coat thoroughly to remove anytangles or matted areas as well as any other foreign debris. Many dog owners know first hand that if they dont spend timeremoving old, established tangles and mats before bathing manytimes they just get worse. If your dogs coat tangles and matseasily make sure to look for shampoos and conditioners that areformulated to prevent and break up mats.

If your dog has gotten into any sticky or gooey substanceslike tar or gum never use commercial solvents or industrialcleaners on your dog’s coat. Many of these are toxic to yourdog. Try dissolving these substances with mineral oil. If you’reunable to remove something from your dog’s coat carefully snipaway the affected area. It’s always best to sacrifice some hairor fur since it will grow back rather than risk damage to theskin. Brush your dog thoroughly between baths, daily if you can,to distribute the natural oils and remove tangles, mats andforeign matter.

Choosing the best pet shampoo/coat conditioner for your dog.

Always use a pet shampoo that is specially formulated for thepH of your pets skin. Never use “people” shampoos since ourskin pH level is much more acidic than our canine friends andcould irritate your dog’s skin.

Start bathing your dog at the beginning: Your Dogs Head.

A popular bathing technique is to start at your dog’s head andwork your way toward the tail. This is especially the case ifit’s possible that fleas are present. If you know that your doghas fleas you may want to use a flea & tick shampoo. Starting atyour dogs head forces any fleas to gather away from your dog’sface, eyes, and ears. It is much easier to dunk the rear of yourdog into the tub than your dog’s face. As you may imagine, yourdog is likely to be much more cooperative by following thissimple bathing technique.

Let your dog get used to the sound of the running water. Ifyou’re using a tub or basin fill it with a few inches of warmwater. Then get your dog into the bath. If you’re using a raiseddog bath just secure your dog into the dog bath. Starting fromthe head thoroughly wet your dog with warm water. You can use aplastic pitcher or a spray nozzle for this task. If you’re usinga spray nozzle make sure the spray is not too strong. Neverspray water directly onto your dog’s face or genitals.

Apply a pet shampoo/coat conditioner. Follow the instructionson the package. Work it in from the head to the tail. Be sure toget all those nooks and crannies; like the rectum, between thetoes, behind the ears and under the chin. Be careful not the getshampoo in your dog’s eyes. If this is a concern you can protectyour dog’s eyes by putting some protective eye gel in each eyejust before getting your dog into the bath.

Rinse your dog thoroughly with warm water. Shampoo residue cancause skin irritations so make sure you give your dog’s coat athorough rinsing. Towel drying your pet’s coat in the dog bathwill remove some of the excess water before you take your dogout of the tub. Some breeds should never be rubbed, only patted, since their coats easily tangle. Dog owners often prefer to usededicated pet towels. There are pet drying towels available thatwill absorb 10 times their weight in water. These are very handytowels to use for a dog bath and can also be used any time yourpet gets wet.

Although many dog owners think of bathing their dog as achallenge, with the right approach, supplies, and equipment, youcan get through it relatively unscathed. And don’t forget toreward your dog’s good behavior in the bathing process withtreats and plenty of loving kindness.

Training Your Dog Is Easy When You Know What To Do!

Dogs do not have the same ability to think as humans do, therefore you should not try to treat your dog as an intellectual equal. The owner will be greatly disappointed with how training goes. Dogs are smart animals, though, and with a little patience and understanding they can be well trained.

When tying up your dog, make sure it is not close to another chained dog. If there chains become entangled with one another it could lead to an injury. Becoming wrapped up could also cause death if one of the dogs gets so tangled and wrapped up his airway closes.

Positive reinforcement should include more than just dog treats. Even though using treats will work, it is not the best idea. However, you may not always have a treat with you to congratulate you dog outside of regular training sessions. Try patting your dog on the back and giving him an "enthusiastic, that a boy."

A clicker is a good way to reinforce behaviors. To properly use a clicker, you will need to set up a positive association with the noise from the clicker and a desired behavior. You should click, and then immediately treat. This method will be necessary until your dog learns that the "reward" is the clicking sound alone. Soon, your dog will associate the click with reward or other positive actions, which can be very helpful in shaping the desirable behaviors you hope to achieve.

Every person in your family should know the same commands you use when training your dog. For instance, your dog is going to get confused if you are saying "drop it" after he fetches a stick and your child tells him "let go." If the family can be consistent about commands, training will go easier.

You need to make certain your dog is having fun each day during training sessions. Taking time to play creates a strong bond between the two of you, and your dog will be more likely to respond well to training. Despite the fun the two of you will have during training, it is important to set aside time that is designated to enjoyment only, with no work or training involved.

Do not be too proud to contact a professional for assistance. Training you dog can be tough, and sometimes you need a dog trainer if your dog is too hard to handle. A dog trainer can be invaluable in pointing out where the issues are occurring, and they can also put you back onto the right track.

If you want a dog that is well-behaved, assure that everyone who interacts with the dog gives it the same treatment as you do. Consistency is the keystone of excellent dog training. Your dog will get confused if his trainers are too different from each other.

Do not let other sources of stress affect your training sessions with your dog. This prevents the dog from feeling like he did something wrong. Unless your dog has done something to deserve your unhappiness, staying positive is vital to successful training.

Your dog can, and should, find the training experience to be a positive one. Keep training to a short 10-15 minute session; much longer and your dogs attention will wander. Keep your rewards coming and vary what you give them. Dogs get a kick of compliments and praise. When you make training fun for your dog, it will make listening in general fun for the dog too!

A healthy diet is essential for your dog. A poor diet can negatively affect them in various ways. A poor diet can affect their behavior as well as their health. A simple improvement to their diet will work wonders in how a dog feels, and make it much easier for them to have a clear mind during training.

You can train most forms of anxiety out of your dog. If your dog barks constantly or destroys things while you are away, he is probably suffering from separation anxiety. You can fix this by showing your dog acceptable behavior for the times when youre away. It is also wise to be demonstrably affectionate in order to make him or her feel better.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.

Dealing With Problem Puppy Behaviors

Dealing with problem puppy behaviors

Everyone who owns a puppy or dog will eventually have to deal with and correct less than desirable behaviors on the part of their companion animal. There are a number of behaviors that should be nipped in the bud, including:

Jumping up on people
This is one of those behaviors that many owners inadvertently encourage in their animals, since jumping up, wagging his tail and the like can be adorable in a young puppy. When that puppy is older, larger and heavier, however, this jumping up behavior ceases to be cute and begins to become annoying and even dangerous.
A large, heavy dog jumping up on people can be dangerous to young children and even to some adults, since a large, 100 pound plus dog can easily knock down a child or small adult. Since you as the owner are responsible for the behavior of your dog, it is important to nip this problem behavior in the bud. The best time to do that, of course, is when the puppy is still small and easy to handle. When the puppy jumps up on you or someone else, gently place the puppys feet back on the floor. When the dog remains standing there, be sure to praise it extensively.

It is also important to give the puppy an alternative to jumping up. Puppies jump up on people to express their enthusiasm, so it is important to redirect this energy in a more socially acceptable direction. Try teaching the puppy to present his paw instead of jumping up. When teaching the puppy to not jump up on people, it is important to be consistent. Consistency is important in any training program, and all members of the family must understand that the puppy is not permitted to jump on them.

Pulling, charging and tugging on the lead
One problem you definitely want to nip in the bud is this one. It is important that the puppy learn to respect the collar and leash now, when he is still small and light enough to handle. Teaching this lesson to a 10 pound puppy will be much easier than teaching the same lesson to a 150 pound dog. Using a good strong body harness or head collar can be a big help when training a puppy not to pull, or to retrain a dog that has already learned to pull on the leash.

When first fitting a harness, it is important to allow the puppy to walk around wearing it, so that he can get used to wearing it. The first thing your puppy must learn, and the basis of all subsequent training, is teaching your dog to heel. Teaching your dog to walk quietly at your side on a loose lead is the basis of all dog training, and until your puppy has mastered this vital skill he will be unable to move onto more advanced training.

When walking with a puppy on a leash, it is important to always keep slack in the leash. If the puppy begins to pull on the leash, the handler should quickly change directions. The puppy will then find itself lagging behind instead of forging ahead. The leash will be loose except for the split second it takes to change directions. It is important for the handler to use a quick tug of the leash, followed by an immediate loosening, when teaching this lesson.

When teaching the puppy to walk properly, it is important to never allow the puppy to pull you around, or to forge ahead on the leash. Allowing the puppy to pull you around will teach him exactly the wrong lesson. Of course, training is not for only young dogs. Older dogs need training as well, either to unlearn bad behaviors or learn proper obedience.

The next post will provide valuable information on getting the most from the relationship with your new best friend.

Dog Training The Things You Must Never Do With Your Dog

Dont you ever notice that there is always something telling you what to do with your dog? they always seem to know exactly what you can and cant do with your dog, like they are experts at dog training.

For example, many dog trainers have told me to never play tugs of war with any of my dogs. I am not sure why but that is what the experts have told me to no do. Go figure.

Another thing that multiple people have told me is that sleeping with your dog on your bed is a really bad idea. Also, people tell me that dogs should be never fed people food like hamburgers or rice. I am not sure the reasoning behind this either but thats OK.

There are so many things that people say I should NEVER do with my dog. I could practically write a whole book about it if I wanted to (and if I was bored enough). To tell you the truth though, I have found that playing games like tug of war with my dog is a good thing. Its like playing around kids except its with your rowdy dog. Weird huh?

Also, I have let my dogs sleep with me many times and it hasnt made them any less tame. In fact, my dogs seem to be even more obedient when I let them sleep with me. And anyhow, who wouldnt want to hang out with their dog? Sounds like a good idea to me.

The important things is that every dog is completely different (some more than others). Every owner is different as well. Every household is pretty different. If your dog understands who is in charge (you), then there really should not be a problem with letting it sleep on the bed with you or play tug of war. Its all about obedience and trust.

In my place, I kind of let my dogs do what they want. I dont completely advocate this but it works for them and me. I can let them sleep with me or lay on the couch and its not like the world comes to an end. If I tell them to do something, they do it. No questions asked. Of course, dogs cant ask questions but thats beside the point.

They dont disobey my orders. They dont try and defend the couch from me or anyone else. They follow what I say and are happy with it. If my dogs ever did growl or defend the couch, then I would take that privilege away from them until they learned their lesson.

The best way to get your dog to get off the bed or couch is to just tell them "OFF". If he ignores you then maybe you should start using a leash or something so you can pull them away. Just give a small tug on its leash.

This is all important for dog training. If you really want to know how to train your dog properly and efficiently then go to this website: http://www.teachthatdog.com to learn how you can personally train your dog the right way. Click here now.

Everything You Need To Know About Dog Training

Undesirable traits such as excessive barking, rowdiness and growling can be changed. If not trained completely out of a dog, they can at least be corrected with the following information in this article. With a good training program, any dog can be a trouble-free companion.

Consistency is the key to dog training. Write down the commands that you use and then make sure each person who needs to know them does. You also need to make certain that everyone should be rewarding the dogs good behavior and not rewarding any bad behavior. If different people in your household respond to the dog in different ways, it becomes confusing for the dog and less likely they will respond in the appropriate way.

In order to get a dog to be well-behaved, everyone who helps you take care of the dog should treat it the same way you do. Consistency is key when it comes to training your dog. If people who are involved with the dog each have different methods of treating the dog, it will become confused.

Your dogs mental and emotion health is dependent on it having something to keep it occupied. Your job lies in providing the right stimulation. Giving your dog fun toys and treats such as Kong Toys or Busy Bones is a great way to keep them happy. You should also walk them on a regular basis so that they can get out any pent up energy. If not given appropriate stimulation, a bored dog will find ways to occupy himself, like chewing up furniture, clothing or drywall!

They key to having a healthy dog is to keep your dog as active as possible. Canines were meant to exercise regularly. It is crucial for them to exert themselves often if they are to remain contented. Make sure your dog gets plenty of walks; play with it at the park, or even look into enrolling it in an agility class. Do not allow your dog to be bored. Make sure he or she stays as active as possible.

It is important to be consistent with the command that you give your dog for each of his specific behaviors. This method is generally very effective with dogs because they quickly learn to connect a stimulus with a certain behavior or action. Remember to be consistent about what commands you use and what behaviors you expect in every training session. By doing this, you will have a higher rate of success with training your pet.

When training your dog, never punish him. If he misbehaves, correct him, but most importantly, you should try to prevent that behavior from happening to begin with. Training is the perfect time to not only teach your pet, but to also talk with him, as this builds a very positive relationship.

Use the dogs name often when training to ensure that you have their attention. Over time and repetition, the dog will begin to understand their name and that they are being spoken to. Select a name that is short and distinctive.

Get your dog used to the things they will encounter when going for a vet visit. Gently place your hands over its body, acknowledging your dog when he responds positively. Work with him so he is tolerant of having his paws touched and teeth examined. Take the next step by having your friends perform the actions to your dog.

Its important to use treats that really capture your dogs full attention when training. You may even opt to give them they would not usually have, such as hotdogs or ice cream.

Make sure your dog enjoys training sessions. Remember that dogs have short attention spans, and keep your sessions short accordingly. The dog should be given ample rewards in various forms. You should praise your dog when he or she does a good job. Making training fun makes listening fun, too!

One thing you can try is to have your dog learn to hold toys in his mouth. Whenever he accepts the toy, you can feed him a treat. Once he learns the association, hold off on the clicker until he has the toy in his mouth. After using the clicker, reward him with a treat. Now, reserve the reward for only those times he completely holds the toy inside his mouth.

All dog owners need to realize that training a dog can now be a very simple task. The correct focus and determination will enable any dog owner to achieve wonderful things in the training of their pooch. The right training can help every dog thrive and be well behaved.

Controlling Your Dogs Bark

By Garland Choate

A barking dog is a brilliant protection and an outstanding burglar alarm system, but you need the power to command the barking.

If you dont train your dog to bark only at the suitable times (fire alarms, disturbance outside the window and as approached by unknowns), your neighbors are likely to begrudge your best friend, and you since you fail to control your dog.

If you require your dog to be security for you, train him the guard command rather than speak, an intruder or someone whos endangering you will not know precisely how much your dog knows about guard and its an excellent deterrent.

This command doesnt mean that your dog will in reality attack someone, but the barking can be a good prevention for your safety both inside and outside your house.

To train your dog to guard or speak, tie his leash to a fence or another immovable item. Stand approximately 3 feet away and tease him with a toy or food, as he begins to bark, give the reward.

Now put the food and toy aside and alter the treat to verbal praise when he starts to bark. The command guard or speak should be commanded as soon as the dog barks. The timing is indispensable here, watching his body language, you can tell when hes ready to bark.

Once he becomes cognizant of the guard command, give the quiet command when hes barking; give the reward as soon as he quits barking. If the barking carries on, give the no command. When hes successfully learned the command, move farther away and carry on the training, he needs to know and react to these commands from any distance.

After this training is successful, untie him from the fence and continue to train him the commands guard and quiet. You and your neighbors will appreciate this training when they have a peaceful night, and they will learn that if he is barking, there is something wrong.

Dogs need physical and mental stimulation as well as companionship, it is rare for a dog to have a pack leader mentality, most are comfortable and feel very safe and secure following their leader, which is you.

Every dog, like every person has its own distinct personality, this causes the difference in their ability to be trained, how intelligent they are and how much patience they have during their training.

Dogs will do many things that their masters do not understand, the one thing you need to remember is that there are very few things your dog does that you cant train him not to do.
Some things just take more patience than others. Every person who has ever been owned by a dog, has hundreds of questions they have needed answers to, and have probably been told many different answers to each question.

I am very pleased to be back home and, for the time being, I am working on building up my strength, Crufts is just around the corner and Im aiming to be fit enough to enjoy a few days there. Hopefully Ill be seeing you all at classes soon,

Why You Should Train Your Dog

Let me ask you a question, Do you think that training your dog will interrupt the wonderful relationship you share with him/her? Sure he/she does bark rather annoyingly when you take him/her out on walks, and you do have to lock him/her up during dinner parties given how it snarls and growls at your friends four year old, but that’s all ok, because that’s what dogs do right?

Ummm….not really.

Sorry to burst your bubble but in spite of not being a human being your dog too is expected to be polite. Sure his antics might seem adorable to you, you might think it’s cute when he jumps up at neighbors and scratches up doors, but your dog’s victims sure as hell wouldn’t agree with you.

You might think you do not want to exercise the sort of authority required to tell him to behave any better, and that’s all quite all right really. Being the owner of a dog doesn’t require you to suddenly transform into a whip swinging ring master and you are right in denouncing the pathetic idea of establishing who the boss is when dealing with an animal.

Where you are wrong, however, is in your basic understanding of dog training. You need to realize that training your dog is not about proving how much better you are than it, you are not trying to teach it ‘human rules’ and thereby attempting to make it more ‘human’, training is not a method of ‘humanizing’ a dog. What it is, in fact, is a way of improving the relationship you share with your pet, and of course a means of making it more sociable.

‘What’s the point of that?’ you might ask. Well, here is the thing. Most of us spend the larger fraction of our daily lives toiling in office, drinking our instant coffee, reading those balance sheets. The little time we get with our family and pets we try to merge with some sort of socializing. We go to the park for a stroll on a lovely evening after work, or to a friend’s house to watch a movie. If our dogs are unfriendly then on all these occasions we keep it back home, alone, such that in no time it’s in no way a part of our life at all.

Now, like human beings your dog too gets lonely, it gets lonely and depressed and awfully sad especially when it’s left all alone in a dark house where there isn’t anyone to pat his tired little head.

So you see ultimately due to your aversion towards training you keep your dog from enjoying the sort of company and activities it would like to.

Obedience training is a means of letting your dog cope better with it’s immediate environment. It grants every dog an easier life and makes them easier to live with. Training your dog will give you more opportunity to spend more time with your beloved pet, no matter where you are going and who you are going with.

So get in their and give your dog a nice pat and take it out for training. A few magic words like ‘heel’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘sit’, will change your relationship with your favorite companion forever. Good luck.
